Do you own a BB Flip 8220? Well tomorrow (rumored) these BlackBerry devices will be getting the 5.0 OS updates:

Supported BlackBerry Smartphones with BlackBerry Device Software 5.0

    * BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8200 series smartphones
    * BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphones
    * BlackBerry Curve 8350i smartphones
    * BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphones
    * BlackBerry Bold 9000 smartphones
    * BlackBerry Storm 9500 series smartphones
    * BlackBerry Tour 9630 smartphones

Why can't other BlackBerry devices have 5.0 updates? Here's why:

    In order to optimize the BlackBerry smartphone user experience with BlackBerry Device Software 5.0, BlackBerry smartphones must have more than 64MB of memory to support this version of BlackBerry Device Software. BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 is targeted to be supported by Research In Motion on the above noted BlackBerry smartphones.

Crap.  I thought my Pearl 8120 had the same specs as the flip.  :(

It seems like every day I'm finding a new reason to kick myself for getting the pearl instead of the Sunset Curve when they were the same price.  I thought "I'll use this thing as a phone way more than I will for texting and emailing."
Woops.

If I were you I'd hold off for the 9700 instead. It will come preloaded with OS 5.0

The 8330 is the CDMA version of the 83xx Curve. The 8310 is an 8300 with GPS and the 8320 has Wi-Fi instead of GPS. The 8330 has slightly more app memory which allowed it to get 5.0.

I should check Desktop Manager for some app updates. I saw some when I connected my BlackBerry to DM this morning. Dammit, I just spent 90 minutes last Friday trying to get 5.0 onto my new 8900.

I was thinking about trying those betas but never got time to install It on my 8900.

Just going to probably wait and be really surprised when I get my BB 9700 with 5.0 already preloaded.

5.0 really is nice. But it's more like a service pack. There are a few nice UI tweaks here and there plus there's threaded SMS. Besides that, there's nothing too interesting about 5.0.

Now that 5.0 is almost released, time to start waiting for 5.5 or 6.0 :P

I know this topic hasn't been posted to for a while, but if you're interested, I have upgraded my 8900 with OS 5.0.0.411 from Vodafone DE on crackberry's site. I've had it for about a month, no problems period. It is an official release for European nations. Also, I am using BB Desktop 5.0.1

As Kickstar13 said, this is just a few tweaks here and there. But it enabled visual voice mail after I enabled it on TMO thru the phone. And it does work on my 8900. I've also got better signal by this upgrade. I will be glad to answer any questions. Hope this helps other users of the 8900.

It appears that the 8520 should support 5.0. To make the cut to be getting 5.0, it needs 64 Mb of flash memory, as I understand it.
