If the Desire truly was coming to T-Mo there would be no competition.  It is just about everything anyone should/would want in a phone right now and would be the best offering on T-Mo by a longshot.

The only thing better would be the Supersonic but of course Sprint is getting that.

I really doubt T-Mo USA is getting the Desire... but it's something I would hold my breath for because it's the phone I really want.

Here's my 2 cents: unless the HD2 has some major flaw uncovered by seeing in person, the HD2 is my phone of choice ASAP. I'll try Win Mo 6.5 or Win Phone or whatever it is as an OS. :P As soon as it's ready, I'll upgrade to WinPhone 7. Hope we see accessories like OtterBox coming out for this soon, too.

My first, and only, experience with Win Mo was several years ago on the Dash. I took it back 1 day after purchase. I barely got 1 bar of gsm anywhere in my home area. It was obviously different in operation from any BlackBerry I had. I'd have stuck with WinMo a little longer, but I couldn't get over the fact I had almost zero signal, anywhere.

HD2 has many attributes that will help me overlook WinMo, or whatever it's called. 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen. 1Ghz Snapdragon. HTC Sense UI. 3G.

BlackBerry devices have been a good experience, but it's time to step up to some big power and touch screen. And now it's the sooner the better. HD2 and TMO rolling the 3G out will help pull us out of the number 4 spot.  8)
Baa Baa.

Is there any chance that the DEV team figures out a way to port Android onto the HD2? I know that the bigger screen will probably make it tough, but I would consider buying this phone if I was reasonably certain that I could get android 2.1 on it.

Android has not been ported to the hd2 at all...its been ported to other phones, but not the hd2. Developers are working on a port for the hd2, but have not yet succeeded.

Good, that makes me feel better.  After reading this thread last night I searched all over for an Android ROM for this bad boy.  I would have been pretty  >:( if there was one out there I missed.

I found a great wiki that has the xda developers in progress for an Android Rom on the HD2.  I'll keep this board up to date with any big news.  For now, it looks like the SD card drivers is an issue and they may need to wait until the Supersonic's drivers are available.

I'm still trying to work it out, why would getting android on the HD2 even be an issue when you can get the nexus 1 with an official version that will have everything working perfectly? Granted the screen is smaller by .6 inches but its also AMOLED which gives better colour fidelity. They both have 1ghz processors, same RAM, android market has more programs, so what is the attraction, especially for a new buyer?

Well, let's see.... for starters the Nexus isn't actually 'supported' by T-Mobile and only a handful of people can actually get the discounts which is a huge thing.

Also... the Nexus is suffering from poor support from Google (it's almost as if they want Android to fail)... and is also hampered by numerous problems from 3G not always working to the touchscreen not always registering and other minor difficulties.  Whether it's HTC or Google mostly at fault here is the question... which is a big question since the HD2 is also made by HTC who I'm not the biggest fan of because it seems (G1) that quite a bit of their phones are not the best made and suffer from hardware problems.

So with all those problems mounting and no solutions in sight it makes sense that the 'world' is turning their attention to the next 'big' thing... which is the HD2.  Which is everything the Nexus is and seemingly better.

In regards to the App market, my reply is much like Android's should be to Apple.

It's not the quantity that matters... it's the quality.

I don't personally care if there are 20k or 10k or 500 apps, as long as they're the ones that I want and work.

im enjoying Android 2.0.1 (haret) on my TP2.. but i dont use it too much since they have to optimize the battery drive (its a battery killer.. 5 hours max).. also, a few big things dont work like sound thru back speaker, wifi, bt, hardware accel., accelerometer, HW3D, openGLes, post mounts (for it to charge, or for the kb lights to work, u have to have them ON, then start the android haret).. but atleast we have 3G, marketplace, kb & hard keys mapped correctly, calls, and txt working  =)

but one of the main devs (Phh.......) for this android port (mainly comes from the TP1), just recieved his TP2 (from $ donations to purchase) in the mail, so the TP2 progress should be quicker for the big things.. it think he fixed the hw3d so far, and he's close to gettin the wifi working, but he said its been difficult.. but yea, thats good news for us TP2 users!

The nexus 1 may not be available from T-Mobile but its readily available online, and any issues will eventually be resolved. And it may not be supported by T-Mo but it IS supported which is more than can be said for any future port of android running on the HD2. Plus there is the upcoming supersonic, Desire and Legend, Motoroi and Cliq XT so I really cant see the point.

How's this for an answer:

I don't have $530 to drop on a phone, so I'm going to buy the HD2 at an upgrade price and port over Android.

Does that make sense?

With all the caveats J-Hop2o6 posted, not really.

That's run through haret, which is essentially a virtual box inside of the Windows Mobile.  The xda Roms flash from the micro SD and boot directly.  This requires them to have all of the appropriate drivers, including wifi, bluetooth, etc etc etc.  So hopefully it wouldn't be an issue...but if it is, I agree.

Why can't the HD2 just have Android?  I don't want this WM garbage.

Well guys it seems like androidspin is reporting that some htc reps said that the htc desire/bravo would be coming to tmo usa. If this holds true then I might end up skipping the hd2.  Sense ui with flash is what I want. Plus the optical pad and the hard buttons top it off. If both the desire/bravo and the hd2 get released around the same time for tmo usa I'm gonna have to try both phones out.

http://www.androidspin.com/2010/02/17/i-got-more-bravo-for-you/
They also said that the G1 was getting Android 2.X by the end of January.

Agreed.

And call me crazy, but a blog with that many grammatical errors cannot be trusted.  I'll believe it when somebody with a higher credibility and/or an ability to grammar-check reports it.
