The specs and hardware on this phone are really making me consider Windows Mobile for the first time.  I don't even care about 7, yet, because the 6.5 with Sense looks so cool.  The N1 is falling behind on my list.  Either one would be great for me, though, at this point.

I'm buying one or the other on 3/24 (if that's the real date)

I seen that video of gta2..i cant wait to load up all my roms of snes, nes, psx and play them on the hd2..with the screen being so big i imagine the gameplay to be pretty good considering the touch screen controls..i have not been excited for a phone  since the g1 was going to get released..the music player on sense also looks really nice..

I read this article & basically the HD2 has to have 6.5 by no choice since 7 is not available at this time. However, I am gonna provide an example of ppl that have been saying how can it have 7 without a search button. Another is simple, I am going to provide a good example:

Remember the DASH that launched with Windows Mobile 5 & then got an upgrade to 6 but didnt have a voice command button. It was substituted. There is 1 unusable button it seems & thats either Home or Windows Start Key. So pressing one of these or holding them could start search.

Question is who would buy it? That is my dilemma now, I doubt there will be a great demand for 6.5 devices when WP7 devices are available so the resale value will be even lower. I'd want at least half the retail price for the next upgrade.

Check ebay, you can sell anything on ebay and set a minimum amount that you want to sell it for.

WM7 requires 5 buttons:
- Home Button
- Back Button
- Search Button
- Power Button
- Camera Button

HD2 has 5 buttons but the consumer will be so confused if they have to hit the call button to use the camera.

I remember when a voice command button was required. A camera button isnt required idk why ppl keep adding buttons for requirements.

I would/will. By the time 7 gets here I will have had the phone for over half a year. And who knows whether I will even like any of the early 7 phones? I didn't like the first Androids. So by the time I'm ready for something new, in about a year from the release of the HD2, they will probably just be getting something that I want. I think the HD2 stands on it's own with the OS that it will be released with.

I am not so sure that will be the general feeling when 7 launches, I wonder how many people were interested in the Touch Pro once the Touch Pro2 was made available, and thats with them running the same OS. I guess I am one of the few who actually likes WP7 so I personally would not be interested in a 6.5 handset.

well it doesent really worry me that the hd2 will or will not be upgradeable to wp7.

by the time wp7 gets released q4 2010/q1 2011 i think im gonna have want to get a new phone anyways.

maybe by that time android is way ahead and we get a true monster phone follow up to the g1 and then ill jump back to android.

in the mean time with the rumors of the hd2 not being upgradeable to wp7 maybe this will bring the price of the hd2 lower :)

tmobile gimme my hd2 already! push up the release date.

8 months is too short a time for my likely $600 investment to be obsolete. Maybe we'll hear something at Mix10, direct confirmation either way would be good.

600? I dont think its gonna be that expensive with upgrade/contract. Unless your gonna buy it full price then maybe it will be 600 or more. But now that tmobile is giving us the early upgrade plus i can get a new smartphone every year for full discount. Right now i qualify for full discount because i was an early adopter of the g1. Im pretty sure the hd2 will keep me happy for a year and then i can get a full discount again on a latest and greatest smartphone. Maybe android or wp7 or maybe even webos on tmobile.

No WM7, then i see no point of carrying this phone when your 8months late on carrying the device, i buy my phones outright so i dont have to get the 29.99 data plan, so i can use my Tzones like i do with my 9700, so i guess i'm wait for an official annoucement, maybe at MIX they will have more details..

I don't think it will be upgradeable to WinPho 7. It doesn't have a search key. If they make an exception for one manufacturer, they have to make an exception for all. Plus, why would they release a phone with Sense, only to release an update later on in the year that will remove Sense. After all, WinPho 7 can't be skinned.

However, I do think they could boost the OS up to WinMo 6.5.3 if it isn't launching with it already.

the devs over at XDA work wonders.. so yea, you'll have WM7 on the HD2.. and they release the first HD2 back in november.. the takes time for oversees phones to hit the US..

Well guys it seems like androidspin is reporting that some htc reps said that the htc desire/bravo would be coming to tmo usa. If this holds true then I might end up skipping the hd2.  Sense ui with flash is what I want. Plus the optical pad and the hard buttons top it off. If both the desire/bravo and the hd2 get released around the same time for tmo usa I'm gonna have to try both phones out.
