Do I have to have both blackrain and bootneuter on my screen? Since I don't use either one. So if I go and uninstall both what will happen? Just trying to make room for more stuff and my screen its not so cluttered.
Do not delete the blackra1n app on your iPhone. It will cause problems.

I just got a iphone 2g & updated the firmware to the most recent version on itunes.
I ran blackra1n, the phone flashed geohot's pic & all the popups were stating that the jailbreak was successful. However, the phone either didn't reboot or part of the jailbreak didn't take as George's pic was replaced by the "connect to itunes screen." I tried to run balackra1n a few more times , then switched usb ports, and even computers, all to no avail.
I tried to restore, got error code 13, then tried DFU restore, still without success.
update
If I remove the TM simcard, can restore & I finally get the regular iphone screen w\ the blackrain app is on the phone but it won't update as the wifi won't turn on
Someone please help me, what can I try next?
thanks
ps
I was able to jailbreak a previous iphone so I think I understand the procedure. I'm guessing that something is wrong w\ wifi???
pss
have spent at least 20 hours on this & a previous phone trying to get the jailbreak to work
am ready just to pay the $529 for the nexus 1 as this isn't worth the time

Looks like you're having a lot of problems.

So when you try to jailbreak it with blackra1n what happens?
Also have you tried downloading a fresh copy of blackra1n?
Make sure to keep the T-Mobile SIM card while restoring in iTunes.

Looks like you're having a lot of problems.
THAT'S PUTTING IT MILDLY!!!
So when you try to jailbreak it with blackra1n what happens?
IF I DO IT W\ TM SIMCARD CAN'T GET OUT OF CONNECT TO ITUNES SCREEN  W\O SIMCARD  GET REGULAR SCREEN BUT CAN'T LOAD BLACKRA1N UPGRADES, GET INTERNET ERROR
Also have you tried downloading a fresh copy of blackra1n?
MULTIPLE TIMES ON 2 DIFFERENT LAPTOPS
Make sure to keep the T-Mobile SIM card while restoring in iTunes.
THIS ONLY MAKES IT WORSE

Could use some help.

Been using an iPhone 2G. Love the damn thing. Hope the next iPhone hardware update is unlocked.

In the meantime, I decided to upgrade to a 3G. I know the frequencies aren't compatible, but I figured the hardware is better overall.

Problem: can't get it to work.

I bought an unlocked phone on eBay. When I got it, it had a lot of data already on it (pics, etc.). And per the other discussion thread concerning blackra1n rc3, I wanted to do it clean anyway.  So I restored it in iTunes. It's running 3.1.2 on modem 5.11.07. I'd heard about not update baseband but read that the new jailbreak fixes that issue.

So I restored. I ran blackra1n. It ra1ned. iPhone booted just fine. I shut off 3G and activated my wifi. Then went to the blackra1n app and installed sn0w. It appears to install fine. And it searches. And searches.

And then it shows up as T-Mobile, with full bars. Which I thought should mean it worked.

However: even when the carrier displays a T-Mobile, with full bars, it doesn't actually work. I've managed to send myself a text message, but can't seem to make any calls.

Any ideas?

Welcome to TmoNews!

Okay first of all, have you tried restoring it again (Put the iPhone into DFU Mode), and then using Blackra1n to jailbreak/unlock the iPhone?

I would try that one more time, if it doesn't work post back and I'll trouble shoot with you further.

Thanks for the welcome.

I hadn't put it into DFU mode, just restored it. So I tried it all all over again, but first put it into DFU mode before I restored it, and then jailbroke, and then unlocked it.

The results remain the same.

Here's what happens: it's definitely on TMo's network. The carrier thing says T-Mobile. And I've placed a call. But there seems to be a ludicrous amount of lag. That is, I dial the number, press send, but then have to wait five or ten seconds before I get to ringing. But it did ring.

However, it will not accept incoming calls. My roommate tried calling me. It rang four times before it went to voicemail, but the handset didn't respond at all.

It looks like the SMS times out before it can send.

Any further ideas?

Do you get good reception (signal strength) in the location you're incurring problems?

Generally full bars, yes. Though that can be inconsistent, i.e., it seems to completely lose the signal sometimes.

Hmm

DOUG TRY THIS AS WELL
Ok lets try a different method. Restore your iPhone to a custom 3.1.2 firmware for the 3G. Here is a link for 3.1.2 for 3G ONLY: http://www.iphonefirmware.com/download/49

Save it to your desktop. Then in iTunes press the "restore" button and the "shift" key at the same time. A window will pop up asking you to select the custom IPSW. Select the one you downloaded and saved to your desktop.

Then instead of using blackra1n, use redsn0w.

Download redsn0w (latest) for Windows here: http://iphwn.org/redsn0w-win_0.9beta3_gsfix.zip

You will also need a copy of the firmware for your iPhone 3G. Here is firmware 3.1.2 for the iPhone 3G ONLY:

Download and save to your desktop.

Connect your iPhone to the computer via USB and then exit out of iTunes. Run redsn0w. It will ask you for the firmware, so you will need to browse for the firmware you downloaded (should be located on your desktop).

Then select the following options (Checkmark them):
1.Install Cydia

If you want to add custom boot/recovery logos you can.

Then follow the directions and your iPhone will be jailbroken.

Unplug your iPhone from the computer, and launch Cydia.

Add this repo in Cydia (Manage>Sources>Edit>Add): http://blackra1n.com

Then go to Search, and search for blacksn0w

Install it.

Let me know if that works!

Warning: Do NOT upgrade to 3.1.3 Firmware on the 3G or 3GS as it will update your baseband and you will not be able to unlock or jailbreak your iPhone.

Thanks kick for the further advice.
I'm selling that phone & getting a iphone 3g already jailbroken, so, hopefully it'll run smoothly. Back to ebay goes the 2g that I couldn't jailbreak, maybe someone else will have better luck

Sadly, it did not. I mean, it worked okay. The jailbreaking went without a hitch, and I loaded blacksn0w and unlocked it.  Again, got the T-Mobile signal at full strength.  But it still wouldn't work.  I was curious if it was the phone, but my roommate's AT&T sim works okay in it.

General question: is the 3G really that much faster than the 2G?  Will I be missing out on a whole lot if I just keep the 2G, since I've got it loaded already with all my stuff?

Man, I hope to Hell Apple's next iPhone is unlocked and compatible with T-Mo. I probably wouldn't ever leave, especially considering AT&T's prices, but the thought's crossed my mind myriad times.

If that's the case, there's something wrong with your iPhone. Meaning, its not software related.

The iPhone 2G and 3G have the same processing speed, and processor. They're exactly the same handset, minus the aluminium back the iPhone 2G has. Also the iPhone 3G has a GPS and a plastic touch screen and a louder speaker.

The iPhone 3GS is the one that's fast! But I wouldn't buy one of those now, since the new iPhone is only 4 months away, and rumor has it, that its headed T-Mobile USA's way!

Welcome to TmoNews!

You shouldn't have updated to 3.1.3 as it will upgrade your baseband. There is no way to unlock or jailbreak 3.1.3 for the iPhone 3G or 3GS. You will have to wait for the iPhone Dev Team/Geohot to find an exploit for the firmware after 3.1.3 as they have both stated that they will not find a solution to jailbreak/unlock firmware 3.1.3.

You should be very careful before updating your iPhone firmware.
