Quote
We are hearing from a tipster that T-Mobile is about to shake up the status quo of the U.S. cellular industry. The carrier's employees are being trained tomorrow for "Project Black". The mysterious sounding name is supposed to be something so enormous in reach that it is expected to lift T-Mobile out of 4th place among the nation's wireless operators. Those involved in this have signed non-disclosure agreements, so this looks to be huge.

Our tipster also tells us to expect a 3G BlackBerry by Xmas. He also ran into a Nokia rep who quit the next day, so she didn't mind revealing that there will be 2 "N" series smartphones at T-Mobile early next year including the Maemo 5 powered N900.he said to expect more hgh-end Nokia devices to be coming to T-Mobile.

Tmobile branded N900 anyone? Curious as to what this "Project Black" is too. Think it has anything to do with Black Friday?

Look this is just more empty hype from T-Mobile's PR department directed at their employees.  There no such super secret project or device or service that is going to lift T-Mobile out of 4th place.

I'd be surprised if T-Mobile announced they will be selling the iPhone this Summer! I'd probably have a heart attack.

I wouldn't mind that, but Tmobile has put a lot of emphasis on Android. That would cannibalize sales imo.

Look as the stars align:
1.  T-mobile says we will be updating all 3g networks to hspa+ 21 MBS by the middle of next year.  (New iphone always launches then.  Also Bell and Rogers have a HSPA+  network in Canada and both have the iphone.  ATT is way behind with HSPA+.)
2.  ATT all of the sudden says you can do VOIP over their 3g.  Their iphone exclusivity is about to end.
3.  Tmobile of course had first dibs on the sholes but passed over it since they are going to push the iphone.
4.  Tmobile has the iphone every where else.
5.  Does the iphone even come as a CDMA phone?

The iPhone doesn't come in CDMA and it is very unlikely that Apple will make a CDMA iPhone JUST for Verizon. But Verizon claims its 4G network is months away.

This is so exciting! I knew that the rather unimpressive Christmas phone lineup seemed like a ruse to get everyone to kick T-Mobile when they're down and then they have an amazing come from behind victory at the end and kick every other carrier right in the pants.

Welcome to TmoNews!

Yes I agree. I was surprised when the 9700 and N900 weren't mentioned in the Holiday offers.

Phones might only be part of it. Wasn't there talk about TMo and Clearwire talking to each other? I wonder if TMo and Clearwire has inked an agreement together and TMo will be using Clearwire's towers for 4G?

Clearwire wouldnt be big news. It could be purchase of sprint.

But I did have a strange vision that keeps bothering me that they will get the iphone next year.

Also this thread is two separate topics ur topic is high end nokias but the topic switches to project black. It should be changed to T-Mobile doing something BIG tomorrow or something. Also this belongs below in the tmonews chat thread.

I'm wondering if it's a multitude of things? HSPA rollout, iPhone, maybe the SE Xperia X3/Rachel, unlimited mobile and data plans like Sprint's new one but cheaper, HTC Dragon, LTE? All at once? I'd be pretty hyped and can overlook the Hero and Sholes.

I don't think the anouncement it is only about a device. If the rumors are saying that it should change the status of T-Mobile from #4, one device is not going to do that, even if it is the iphone.  Yes the iphone would help, but it will not vault T-Mobile from 4 to #3 above Sprint.
