Feedback / Hey guys / mods

If you are going to arbitrarily delete something I (or anyone else in my opinion) has to say in a thread, at least give us a bit of respect and pm w/ a 'hey i'm deleting your post cause ' .... '.  Yes, I admit I was harsh, but this is an open forum, oh wait, it's now clear it is obv not.  I was replying w/ an opinion to a post that was nothing more than opinion. *shrug*

Nexus One / Re: Nexus One with a Physical Keyboard??
« on: January 09, 2010, 01:01:36 am »
Yea.. after using VK's for so long (samsung i7500 since august) I just don't see the need for a physical one and feel it is nothing but a cumbersome space waster for an otherwise good device...  It worked for me on the g1, but... that was the g1..

We've got a zagg cart in the local mall, I'm gonna wait and just hit it up next week (and be *super* careful with the device) and let them install it :D

Yea, it is really good.. Samsung i7500 / Galaxy claimed to be 1500, this is 1400 and kills it without breaking a sweat, with faster hardware and live wallpapers? Yea..

Tried to do a bit of a battery test today, and this absolutely crushed my samsung galaxy.  Unplugged from charger @ full power right at 3pm EST here is usage till 12am EST.

About 18 min of phone calls (4) in a 3g area, 8 sms messages, 35 messages from yahoo im and aim in ebuddy which ran for about 2 hrs after work while i was out for a bit. twidroid going full time, 25-ish minutes on wifi surfing, 5 min of letting a friend check out speed forge 3d, about 15 minutes of gallery / camera / gps / google maps usage messing around w/ location embedded in photos. (and i must admit at this point perhaps 2min plugged in to usb to copy some photos off and check out exif data) 2 market downloads on 3g (dunno sizes shazam and ebuddy), countless times unlocking the phone, checking twidroid, and generally fondling it (lol), numerous times messing w/ the default weather / news widget (though no links clicked here just checking out weather and headlines and an unrelated note (i wish we could re-order news tabs sci-tech to the front damnit)), logged in and set as avail on google talk client entire time, google voice client running, and switched wallpapers to show a friend some of them @ dinner, then a few times in status checking battery and if it said umts or hsdpa, and phew I think that is it!

battery status @ midnight? 43%

Nexus One / Re: Multi touch browser on Nexus One....???
« on: January 08, 2010, 02:31:08 am »
Well droid users first got a taste now the Nexus One. I'm really liking this phone but it sucks it doesn't have a keyboard.

The virtual keyboard is really very very good, man.  I came from a samsung i7500 and a g1 before that... I got used to the VK on the samsung when I made the jump from physical on the g1 fairly quickly, but imo the keyboard on the N1 is leaps and bounds better.  I guess it can only be so due to the fact that it is larger.  I type way faster on this than I did on my i7500. I haven't used the g1 in months but I'd have to guess typing speed is quite similar.  AND DO NOT FORGET you got that nifty ass voice input crap hehe.  I've tried it a couple of times as tests, ( haven't done it for actual messages yet ) but the test messages I've spoken have been spot on surprisingly enough.

I would certainly not let the lack of kbd hold me back from having this hardware.  It really is too bad it isn't in T-Mo stores so people could see the VK and other aspects in action.

Nexus One / Re: Multi touch browser on Nexus One....???
« on: January 08, 2010, 01:58:22 am »
Yea, the device itself is multi-touch enabled, it's just the applications that are not.  I'm sure in no time (if you are willing to run that one little command to root anyway ; ) we'll have multi-touch in browser, gallery, keyboard, possibly maps.  Pretty sure Cyanogen already got it working in the default browser, though I don't think he has released it yet. If he can't make it happen (which is unlikely) I'm sure there will be a port when the euro version eventually ships:  http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/07/surprise-surprise-htcs-euro-spec-nexus-one-does-multitouch/

BTW mrjlwilliams I'm curious, why are all of your posts sportin' giant text? I truly mean no offense or anything I'm just curious.. It comes off like you are either a) yelling or trying to talk louder than everybody else. or b) think your posts are more important and should stand out.

It comes off kinda odd.

Nexus One / Re: Can't Order my Nexus One
« on: January 07, 2010, 01:35:04 pm »
I got this error using firefox over and over and over.  I switched to chrome and the order went right through.  Someone elsewhere suggested it is a cache issue.

I had a similar experience but was getting the error with Firefox.  I fired up chrome and my order went right through.

Cyanogen says he'll have it on N1 soon, don't know if any modifications were necessary but from that tweet, sounds kinda like it.

I live in Indy and immediately when I heard that nexus one shipping is all originating here I thought http://www.brightpoint.com is their distribution partner.

Oh and as for Gorilla glass see this http://phandroid.com/2009/12/17/the-first-fallen-droid/

I haven't heard anything about the glass on the Nexus One and haven't gotten mine yet.

I am so glad to be going back to a HTC device.  Been using the Samsung i7500 since August, the hardware rocks but the rom is stuck @ 1.5 and there is only one custom rom out there for it.  Can't wait for Cyanogen goodness on the Bacon One (as he has been calling it on twitter) lol

how do you switch keyboards? im new to this android stuff lol
A few can be found on the market, others can be installed as apk's. After other input methods are installed just long press in a text entry field and select the one you want to use.

Now, if they could allow dynamic scaling of CPU's in their OS we will be set ;)

Man I've looked for like the last 20 minutes and simply can't find it but someone in one of the android lists I follow on twitter who had hands on the device early listed each frequency it scales to.  Everywhere between 200ish mhz up to 998something mhz.  They stated it was doing this scaling by default.  I couldn't find the tweet it's been prob 5 days ago that this went out ><

Nexus One / Re: Purchasing The Nexus One?
« on: January 05, 2010, 03:43:28 pm »
Seemed that there for a while the ordering servers were taking a crap.  I tried repeatedly for about half an hour, gave up to grab some lunch and after that it went right through next attempt.

Ordered it full price.  Love the free over night shipping!  Now if it just ships today that would rule!!

Nexus One / Re: What Do You Think About The Google Nexus One Phone?
« on: December 31, 2009, 10:38:46 pm »
What I'm saying is, it's possible to have the executable installed in internal memory and have game resources stored on the memory card. I'm pretty sure there's a few games on the market that do this already, isn't there?

This is absolutely correct.  The executable itself will install normally in protected memory, but will install assets like sound and graphics data on the sd card.  No root required for this scenario and I know there are apps that do this.

Nexus One / Re: The Nexus one has Been rooted
« on: December 30, 2009, 07:44:13 pm »
The rooted device had an ENG spl, the shipping device may not, so this method of root may not work.  Not to fear tho, if it doesn't I'm sure it's just a matter of time before root is available...

I really wouldn't want it engraved, but if we could choose a custom QR code like the one that went out on the backs of devices that went to Googlers, now that would be cool.  Contact info on a QR code on the back of my phone? Yes please.
