HD2 / Re: HD2 pricing leaked!
« on: March 04, 2010, 10:10:06 pm »
good to know. +1.
thanks. I'm waiting till May for price break and the 2 months this is out, maybe it will be better than just getting as soon as it hits the shelf. And I'll save $250. :)

FYI: I was in a TMO store yesterday, upgrades have changed in this way: you can upgrade after one year of a two year contract if you are upgrading from smartphone to smartphone. This is full, no rebate, upgrade pricing. Example: I can get the HD2 for $199 on May 24th, upgrading from a BB 8900. I will have to change from a BB internet to another data plan for $24.99/mo. IMO, I still think the HD2 has more positives than negatives.  8)

HD2 / Re: HTC's T-Mobile HD2 page

Hi, y'all. I stopped at the local TMO store today to find out about where I was in regards to time left on the contract to qualify for an upgrade discount. I was told the policy has changed somewhat. The policy now is that if you get a smart phone upgrade when you had a smart phone previously, you get the full discount after the 1st year in a 2 yr contract. (I don't know about policy for "regular"/non-smart phones)

For example, since I will have one year in on my 2 yr contract on 5/24/10, and since I have a BB (smartphone) now, I can buy an HD2 (another smartphone) for $199. (the price I saw quoted in recent article here ) This is the price I'd pay at the store, no mail-in rebates, etc. I'd then only have to change my service from BB internet to a non-BB internet/data package. Just thought I'd pass it on.  8)

BTW, this is at a TMO store, not mall kiosk style store.

Locked Posts / Re: HTC HD2 coming to T-Mobile U.S.!

Here's my 2 cents: unless the HD2 has some major flaw uncovered by seeing in person, the HD2 is my phone of choice ASAP. I'll try Win Mo 6.5 or Win Phone or whatever it is as an OS. :P As soon as it's ready, I'll upgrade to WinPhone 7. Hope we see accessories like OtterBox coming out for this soon, too.

My first, and only, experience with Win Mo was several years ago on the Dash. I took it back 1 day after purchase. I barely got 1 bar of gsm anywhere in my home area. It was obviously different in operation from any BlackBerry I had. I'd have stuck with WinMo a little longer, but I couldn't get over the fact I had almost zero signal, anywhere.

HD2 has many attributes that will help me overlook WinMo, or whatever it's called. 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen. 1Ghz Snapdragon. HTC Sense UI. 3G.

BlackBerry devices have been a good experience, but it's time to step up to some big power and touch screen. And now it's the sooner the better. HD2 and TMO rolling the 3G out will help pull us out of the number 4 spot.  8)

Nokia Discussion / Re: Nokia N900
« on: February 18, 2010, 11:29:22 am »
N900 is definitely a good choice if you like browsing the web on the go, and like tinkering with apps/the os. As strictly a phone, it is pretty lacking, theres a few unnecessary steps involved in placing a phone call (IMO due to the lack of hardware buttons for call/end). Out the box there is no MMS, so you have to tinker with it to get it running, which I have.

As far as the microUSB port, I haven't had any issues yet. I've had mine since December, took to on vacation to Mexico and back with no issues. Also people have a habit of tripping on the charger cord while it is plugged in, causes my phone to drop and/or having the usb plug to be violently pulled out. So far I've had no issues. Hope this helps.
Actually, your description is what I'm looking for. I like changing apps and the OS for something better. My current, a BB 8900, obviously, is limited on what you can do that way. MMS is no issue, ie deal breaker. I'd use e-mail more anyway. Web browsing is a big reason I looked at the N900 in the first place. Nokia has been good for me, too. At about 10 years ago, when I first got cell service, it was my first choice in a cell phone.

Thanks, MaChiBLue and neetusharma for reply.

I got the phone 2 week ago and loved but but I letted it go and sold it mainly because the size is a little hard to get used  and there is also the concern with the weak usb port and heard many story of people pulling the whole port out when removign the cable and Nokia refuse to fix some of them.

It feel like N900 is really a excellent phone but it is beta quality hardware design.

Thanks for your input. I'll keep ears open to fixes on usb port, hopefully Nokia will address any past and present weaknesses in this area. IMO, I don't think the physically larger size will be a negative for me. I'm actually looking for something larger than my BB 8900. It seems too small in my hand.  :o

BlackBerry Discussion / Re: Official 5.0 OS

It appears that the 8520 should support 5.0. To make the cut to be getting 5.0, it needs 64 Mb of flash memory, as I understand it.

I know this topic hasn't been posted to for a while, but if you're interested, I have upgraded my 8900 with OS 5.0.0.411 from Vodafone DE on crackberry's site. I've had it for about a month, no problems period. It is an official release for European nations. Also, I am using BB Desktop 5.0.1

As Kickstar13 said, this is just a few tweaks here and there. But it enabled visual voice mail after I enabled it on TMO thru the phone. And it does work on my 8900. I've also got better signal by this upgrade. I will be glad to answer any questions. Hope this helps other users of the 8900.

Phone face-off / Re: Windows Vs. Blackberry

I'm also coming from a BB8900 and just got a TP2.  It's totally different, but IMHO can't really compare with the messaging features of the BB. To me, after a BB, the email on a TP2 is hard to adjust to.  H/ever I think the multimedia on the TP2 is much stronger. I love my BB8900, but the TP2 is fun too. I think both have many programs available to download, but the BB is more straightforward.
I've had the BB8900 for about a year, moving up the BB line-up for the past several years. I've even made mine a little better by upgrading to os 5.0. I think, IMHO, the post from jekswang, and in particular the last line, sums it up best. "The BB is more straightforward". Not sure if my past experience compares appropriately, but I had difficulty switching from a BB to a windows mobile based phone. That switch lasted one day. For me, there's no real comparison. I'd stay with a BB. That is my opinion. And as lp984 mentioned "stable OS and solidly designed", that may be just another reason to stay with a BB. Ultimately, in the end it's your call. Do what's best for yourself. Best to you.

I have big hands, longish skinny fingers. My BB 8900 is not big enough for me. I want a "bigger" device. I'm not sure if Otterbox has one yet, but I'd get something for protection. As for the money, yeah, it's quite a lot. But you kinda get what you pay for. Any in this class will cost. BTW, I am toying around with the idea of using my tax refund to buy one out of my short list. I was driving a truck last year, so, I'll be getting a good bit back. We'll just have to see how it plays out, though.  8)

well you can overclock the nexus ones processor to 1.3 ghz. i would assume the same for the hd2 but im not sure.

and there is not a processor faster than that yet. thats the fastest processor available. so i think it will last a long time. but thats just me.

Just think what you said. Attempting to overclock a mobile device! Wow. That just points out again how much more capable these will be, even if only the N1 can overclock. IMO it will apply to both. But we'll see. Pretty amazing, IMO. :)

BTW, for some reason, I still may be drawn to HD2. I like the pics so far, more than the N1. The N900 somehow sneaks back in too. I remember way back when a mobile device would not fit in a pocket! Now look!! Cool.

IMO that may not be good enough.  :-\ I'd like to see an all new direction for Win Mo 7 over past versions. I'll wait for more info on it.  The good thing is it has Snapdragon 1Ghz, only if they tap into all that processing power and speed... Hope these are not capped versions. 8)

Thanks black*silva for HD2 and WinMo 7 info. That answers one thing. Wonder if WinMo 7 is a revolution or evolution for Windows? These device battles are pretty cool. I think it keeps the manufacturers and designers on their toes. Bad for the one who drops the ball on expectations when all tech eyes are watching what's happening with these devices.  8)

This is some great stuff here. Not just this topic, but the whole site. I am curious to see if the HD2 gets WinMo 7 or not. And which updates Nexus One does or does not get. These 2 devices are 2/3 of my short list of which device will replace my almost 1 yr. old BB 8900. The other being a Nokia N900. For what it is, the 8900 is great, especially now, after I upgraded the OS to 5.0.0.411.

I'm ready to change directions now by going with one of these other mobile devices. All 3 of my short listed devices have different OS's, but they all are touch screens and are definitely more capable than any BB we would ever get on Tmo, IMO.
Until which version of WinMo shows up on the HD2, what other upgrades Android sends out, and for the pricing to get settled, I can afford to wait a little.   8)

Good info. Thanks. Any and all info I gather is greatly appreciated. I will make sure that I have no regrets, or should I say, as few as possible, on whatever I choose.  8) And, yes, HD2 does seem maybe the better choice over N900 for me. If Win Mo 7 is that much better...Well, we'll see how it goes. Later, all, for now.  :)

Great stuff. Thanks. I think what I'll do now is wait till new HTC devices hit T-Mobile, just to have HD2 and Diamond3 as options. not sure if I'd like WinMo, although the rumor is they may have wm7.

So, I'll keep my eyes and ears open for info on the ones that (so far) have stayed on my wish list. These are the N900, the HD2 and the Nexus One. I've had BlackBerrys off and on for the whole time I've been on tmo. Don't get me wrong, I like their devices, but I'd like to move on to better and stronger performance in my internet experience. Add in more flexibility in adding apps, etc.

The N900 gets points for the strong internet ability. The Nexus one for the strong Google connection, I use several Google apps now on the desktop and BlackBerry. The HD2 (all 3 have the big touch screen) has very good specs too. T-Mo subsidy comes to mind, better device for less dollar doesn't hurt, but it's not the only deciding factor. I must choose for the same reasons I chose the different BB devices. An upgrade overall in performance, etc. Now, throw in 3 seperate OS styles, designs and strengths in differing areas. I will research for a little while, then when I decide, I will make sure I won't reget what I buy.  :)

Copy and thanks. This is what I wanted, a forum that nets fast results.  8) Already, I like what I'm reading about the upcoming HTC HD2. Hopefully, with windows mobile 7 in T-Mo version. That's the thing, we either have too few choices or it switches to having too many. (if that exists)  :D

Loud and clear copy on making certain of correct operating bands.
That's one reason the N900 kinda stood out, 3G capable on T-Mo. For now, I will wait till I read feedback like this on the N900 AND later, on these new HTC's that are supposed to come to T-Mo. Will the HTC HD2 and the Diamond3, run on the faster, upgraded 3G T-Mo is to bringing out?  And how can we find out? 8)

Ok, thanks. I will follow up on the HD2, which I just read will be added to T-Mo in March or so. Right now, I can afford to keep options open. So, I'll get all the info I can on several good choices, then make the switch. Given that it's soon to be tax refund time, I may be able to get the HD2 or even an unlocked device. Time will tell.  :)

Nokia Discussion / Nokia N900
« on: February 06, 2010, 05:09:31 pm »
Hi, everyone. New to this site.
I had a question I'd like to throw out. Would anybody consider the Nokia N900 a good choice? And explain why?

My background: I've been with t-mobile over 4 years, mostly using a BlackBerry, 7105 first, then to a Pearl 8100, (had bad time with those, 4 bad ones in a row), throw in a T-Mobile Dash for 1 day, and a basic flip phone for  9 months to keep cell costs down, an upgrade to get a BlackBerry again, a 8320 Curve, then finally to 8900.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with BlackBerry, mostly. Like others, I think the browser could be much better. I'm entering a phase now where I may want a touchscreen; Tmo doesn't offer the Storm. Also, I'd like to get more involved in personalizing my phone beyond ringtones, wallpaper, etc. (but not so far as, say, actually programming, though) I would like to consider other devices like the N900 or a Nexus One. The N900, for example, will hook up to 3G on Tmo USA.

So, feel free to give suggestions on a new or newer device model. Anyone have a N900 or Nexus One, let me know your take on it, good, bad, or otherwise.
Thanks
