I'm on from my HP MiniMac 1030NR ;D.  Got a question for you, Shot.  Is your audio really low?  I finally got mine working using VooDooHDA.kext and it's pretty quiet even at max volume.  I also don't think my mic is working.

I actually find my audio to be excessively loud when cranked all the way up. There have been a couple times that I was nervous about blowing the speakers, it seems strange to me that you have the opposite problem. I only have my one unit to offer as a comparison, though you might try asking LeMaurien19 on www.mymacbookmini.blogspot.com, she seems to have a decent handle on the project.

It almost seems like no two installs are alike, I have read of different people having different issues, almost all seem to revolve around the audio input/output or volume controls. I made the jump to 10.6.4 when it became available and the only issue I had was a kernel panic (related to the mach_kernel), my microphone still doesn't work, but that is a very minor issue.

I wish I could be of more help in identifying and correcting your audio issue, if you can think of anything I can do to help, let me know.

In order to get this running I first bought the retail 10.6.3 Snow Leopard disc (at $29.00 is it really worth stealing this?), I then began testing different bootloaders, the one that I found to work is netbookcd 0.8.3 final, I tried Empire, and straight Chameleon, but those gave me EBIOS errors.

I was getting kernel errors for the first couple of days when trying to run the install disc, so I make an ISO of the disc, ripped it to a USB-HDD and tried installing again. This still generated a kernel mis-match so I started trying different kernels to get this running smoothly (the kernel I found that worked was provided by insanelymac.com forum member teateam). I replaced the kernel on the USB-HDD on my PC using MacDrive, I also had to delete the extension for SleepEnabler and the startup extenstion.mkext file from the USB-HDD. I was able to run the install without issue, however when I attempted to boot the machine up I got the kernel mis-match again.

I sat with the kernel issue for a few hours then decided to install OSX to an external HDD, this allowed me to change the mach_kernel post-install from my PC, then load the OS from the external drive, mount the internal drive on my Mini and change the mach-kernel on the internal drive. BAM! I was up and running, ran updates, no issues. The only item that is not currently functioning is the built-in microphone.

I highly recommend this to anyone else with a capable netbook, OSX runs much faster than any of the Windows versions I have tried, and requires less work post install that Ubuntu (had troubles with my WiFi) and Meego (no ethernet or WiFi, still in early development so has time to impress). I also like that it seamlessly tethers to my N900 (Windows did this also, but I like my new setup).

On a side note...I quit my job, this lead to the free time that got me researching this process and will likely have me experimenting with other interesting projects.

Will do!
As long as I am in a solid 3G area there really isn't any problem making the calls.

The camera does work. The hitch is that the user on the other end must have Google's video chat plug-in installed, and of course they must be online. I noticed that when my girlfriend is on her laptop it does not give me the option to video chat with her, however when she is on her desktop (with built-in webcam) it gives me the video chat option in her contact listing. I have successfully made and received about 6 video calls, both over WiFi and T-Mobile's 3G network.

Per Nokia, I do not encourage others to upgrade to PR1.2 until it is officially released, there have been a number of people that have run into issues (luckily I am not one of the people with issues).

My requests for the phone at the moment are that they get Ovi Maps with voice guided navigation onto this puppy, and that they add a voicemail indicator (the tape reel we are all familiar with), a VVM app would be good too, perhaps this can be ported over from Android?

Once HSPA+ is fully deployed video calls will be far more practical, as I am limited to the number of places I can make/receive the calls from due to the 3G footprint (and the need for increase upload speeds in order to transmit myself into the world properly).

I am very pleased with myself...I have just made my first official video call. Before upgrading to PR1.2 I was able to receive video calls (though they seemed to time out quickly), but I took it upon myself to upgrade to PR1.2 yesterday and just completed a 3 minute video call using T-Mobile's 3G network. The video quality was impressive on my end, I could see my girlfriend clearly and could hear her fine as well. On her end she said that I was a little blurry, though I would suspect this of being more due to the slower upload speeds.

Normally you would see the video image, however it seems that taking screen shots does not capture video content. What was even more strange was that when I viewed the screen shot in the Photos app while still connected to the video call it showed current video in the photo.

I tried to do a screencast as well, however the video is clearly locked down to one process at a time, so there is nothing transmitted in the video calls.

Nokia Discussion / Overclocked my N900
« on: April 19, 2010, 08:41:13 am »
So I had a few free moments last night and decided to crank my clock up to 800 Mhz, I like the added snappiness and it is hard to say how the battery has been affected as I am downloading a decent sized file. I will keep y'all posted.

Sorry to hear about your experience with them. Mine has been just the opposite (though I have not had a reason to contact their customer service group). I think that the material is great, the fit perfect (though I did have minor difficulty lining everything up perfectly). There is zero bubbling on the screen, sides or back of the phone. I bought the full body kit on e-bay for $19 shipped to my door.

While it has taken me some time to actually post this, I thought I would throw out my recommendation for the Zagg Invisible Sheild, full body of course. It was not difficult to put on, it looks good, and it protects the phone real well.

I can confirm that the $5.99 T-Zones plan works with the Nuron, as does tethering the Nuron whilst on the T-Zones plan.

As others have stated, the N900 is not for everyone, and in many instances should be considered a Beta product. I could go on, but it would be more of the same, HD2 is likely your best choice if you want a smooth transition. N900 is the choice if you don't mind a mild learning curve.
