Upcoming Phones / Re: Pyramid AKA Sensation
« on: May 01, 2011, 07:44:36 pm »
Anyone feel like if the sensation had nfc that it would be a no brainer? I don't care for HTC sense either. I feel like having it  Would future proof the phone even more, aside from the absent att radio bands that is.
From the Qualcomm link I provided above, for the 8260:

"Trustzone™ enables mobile payment and conditional access as well as protection of storage media"

Hopefully optimistic!

UPDATE:  Then I ran into this http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-bringing-sensation-successor-nfc-q3-2011
Hopefully there will be a surprise in the 1st release of the Sensation in the form of NFC.

And this http://www.nearfieldcommunicationsworld.com/2011/02/21/36117/deutsche-telekom-details-t-mobile-nfc-rollout-plans/

Maybe upgradeable with SW?

Well.  Would you look at this!  Qualcomm page including information on the MSM8260 which is used in the Sensation and the MSM8655 which is used in the LG Revolution, which supports Netflix.

Apple / Re: Apple testing iPhone on T-Mobile's network!

All of that + DT needs to spend big Euros to upgrade Europe.
They can't afford to "carry" the US any longer.
Why they never came up with a strategy for profitability/customer expansion here, I'll never understand.

Is it possible to use Netflix on an Android phone yet? My Vibrant p.o.s. couldnt handle it, but just wondering anyway.

No, Netflix has a server-side DRM block on it, so even if you use the App that's been leaked - it still won't work unless Netflix has approved the device on their end.  Apparently it needs the newer DRM-enabled chipsets to work as well.

Boooooooooo!

HTC.com page on the Sensation:
http://www.htc.com/us/products/sensation4g-tmobile?extcid=Sensation-Google-SEM&jt=1&jp=&jadid=6500424130&js=1&jk=HTC%20sensation&jsid=20718&jkId=gc:a8a8ae4cc2f4751c1012f4c19442c4232:t1_e_:k_HTC%20sensation:pl_&&gclid=CJTquJK-rKgCFQEHbAod4gKXHA#tech-specs

That IS the T-Mobile US logo on the phone.
Follow the link for the sign up for more information.
Hope the 68 temp and June 8 on the date on the phone is all indicative of the availability date!

Even if the acquisition is completed, after 12 - 18 months, it will still take quite awhile for the networks to be merged and make anything sold this year obsolete.

Update!  Just saw this!

Has FCC ID so we can start our daily checks for FCC Test/Approval!

LG / Re: Possible LG G-Slate Pricing Spotted
« on: April 14, 2011, 08:47:44 am »
So, why are the G-Slate and other tablets SOOOOOOOOO expensive and then you have something like this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Acer+-+Iconia+Tablet+/+10.1%22+Display+/+16GB+Storage+Memory+/+NVIDIA+Tegra+Processor+-+Aluminum+Metallic/2512059.p?id=1218332577304&skuId=2512059

Is there that BIG a difference in build quality etc?

« on: March 31, 2011, 07:09:33 pm »
Our Co has purchased about 30, 26" and smaller Vizios.  I think we may have had problems with 2.  One was out of warranty and the other was replaced by Vizio.  Every once in awhile you might get a lemon.
I have a 32" Vizio installed in my RV.  Not problems whatsoever!  The small LG 19" I have in the RV bedroom required dis-assemble and reseating of a connector to get the IR/front panel buttons to work.

Back to streaming video and audio again as of 3/26/11 AM.  Interesting.

Well.  My success was short lived.   Stopped working again yesterday.  :-(

FYI, details on the MSM8260 chip:  http://www.qualcomm.com/documents/files/snapdragon-msm8x60---apq8060-product-brief.pdf
"Digital Rights Management provides encrypted playback of OMA and Windows Media content"
Is that what's needed to support Netflix?

LG / Re: Possible LG G-Slate Pricing Spotted

So, just announced  T-Mobile G-Slate will cost $529.99 after $100 mail-in-rebate card with a qualifying mobile broadband plan on two-year agreement.
Does this mean it will run over $800 with no contract?  Argh!

Hmmmm.  Following link specifically lists 3D display specifically as an additional feature.  You don't need a "special" 3D display to do anaglyph.  Since LG is releasing passive glasses 3D TVs soon, wonder if the slate will actually a passive glasses display and the anaglyph shots in the leaks is just a ruse?

Guess the link would help!  :-)

I'll confirm 100% that it's coming to T-Mobile sometime near the End of Spring/Early Summer - as confirmed my my GM, HTC internal reps, and the VP of Technical Care.  We had a Q&A Session today, I brought it up, the GM confirmed he saw it and mentioned specifically the "Pyramid" device looked amazing.
Do you know with what chip?

LG / Re: Possible LG G-Slate Pricing Spotted

Not surprising.  It's very early in the tablet market and the vendors, as usual, will take advantage of early adopters!
