T-mobile Phone Reviews / T-Mobile G2
« on: July 02, 2011, 12:17:39 pm »

Let me start out by saying that I have used the G2 extensively since release and have run both the stock rom, and CM7 as well as stock kernals and some of the more common overclock kernals.

Currently, I have a stock G2 that my live-in uses as her daily.  We can't comment on coverage or service from TMobile, seeing as how we live in a deadzone currently.  We can, however, sing the praises of Wifi Calling.  It does EXACTLY what it is supposed to do and does it well.  We rely on it for both of our workplaces and house.

I'll give you my outlook on the G2, as well as hers.  That way you can see how a relative 'superuser' sees the G2, as well as someone who has no interest in whether or not a phone has a locked bootloader or not.  Ha.

First and foremost, I adore the G2.  I think it's a handsome little fella and the specs might seem outdated, even by release date standards, but it's a beast in disguise.  The processor never got 'bogged down' on my usage and the phone itself never showed any form of weakness.

The display isn't the best, by any standards, but isn't the worst either.  The colors seem to be washed out in any sort of sunlight and even though the images displayed are crisp, there is a little left to be desired.

Browsing is nothing short of a dream on this device.  No complaints on that.

I did run into a few problems with text messages not going to the right person, and luckily that never became much more of a nuance.

We are lucky enough to be carrying around one of the 2.3.3 refurbs that was sent out 'mistakenly' by Customer Care.  As far as we can tell, this is a final build.  No bugs in the interface or daily usage.

The camera really shines for taking pictures for a midrange phone.  The flash tends to wash the image out, but provided you take the time to turn the flash off and properly set up the camera to your liking, you should be surprised at the image quality.  Video is not so good, but for something quick and easy, it'll do the job.

Our complaints hinge around... the hinge.  It's not a problem for us, but it just feels flimsy to both users.  I don't mind it as much as her, but she does all of her texting on the keyboard so she uses it a lot more than I did.

All in all, I have recommended the G2 to several friends and family and never heard any word of complaint from anyone lucky enough to have snagged one up.  If I was to 1-10 this phone on a scale of usability, durability and overall experience, it would earn a 9, a 7, and an 7.  It's NOT going to blow your mind, but it WILL give you a great user friendly phone that is not going to break the bank.
