T-Mobile Services / Name ID & VM to Text way overpriced!
« on: May 22, 2011, 11:18:56 am »
The blog correctly reported that today T-Mobile would start offering Name ID & VM to Text services:

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/05/t-mobile-adds-new-name-id-and-voicemail-to-text/

However, no pricing was mentioned.  I log in today and I find out T-Mobile wants $3.99 for Name ID which is $1 more than they were charging for Caller ID yesterday.  And they want another $3.99 for VM to Text which Google Voice gives you for free.

Can anyone say rip off!

Apple / Apple testing iPhone on T-Mobile's network!
« on: April 24, 2011, 01:01:20 pm »
Finally, Apple is doing the testing necessary to bring the iPhone to T-Mobile:

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/04/apple-testing-iphone-4-for-t-mobile-usa/

Should be a good September for T-Mobile customers.  Plus, they'll have a device that will work on all of AT&T's bands if/when the merger goes through.

This phone is very close in specs to the N8, but at a really good subsidized price.

All things Android / Google's Schmidt: Android is saving the world
« on: February 15, 2011, 07:05:43 pm »
Sounds like Schmidt is suffering from megalomania:

I guess the motto is, just give Google all of your personal information and they'll run your life better than you can.

Nexus S / Nexus S needs full data plan
« on: December 22, 2010, 03:36:07 pm »
So as of today, it appears that T-Mobile has shut down the use of the discounted data plans like web2go and T-zones with the Nexus S in the same manner as they do with their own branded Android devices.  There had been reports of people getting it to work on the discounted data plans much like the Nexus One still does.

However, multiple reports would indicate that has ended.  So do not buy the device at full price expecting to use it on the cheap plans.

T-Mobile Services / Goodbye Even More Plus
« on: November 14, 2010, 01:07:21 pm »
As the blog shows, Even More Plus plans are no longer being offered.

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/11/reminder-of-new-rate-and-data-plans-launching-today-even-more-plus-going-away/

Instead T-Mobile will be pushing two "promotional" plans one for individuals and one for families.  These plans will cost less than Even More plans and will be more competitive to the other big carriers, have full subsidies available and 2 year agreements required.

A rep also posted that select EM+ customers can migrate to the new promotional plan if they're willing to go back on contract.

Even More Plus plans only lasted about a year.  The plans were confusing to the general public and required high prices to be paid for devices.

Who thinks doing away with EM+ is a good move?

T-Mobile Services / T-Mobile ending "My Email" service Nov 15th
« on: October 28, 2010, 06:16:27 pm »
T-Mobile has announced that they are ending their My Email service on Nov 15th.  My Email is a long-time service that T-Mobile originally offered to customers with wap browsers to allow them to access all of their personal email accounts and even Microsoft Exchange accounts through T-Mobile servers.

If you requested it, T-Mobile would also check all of your email accounts regularly and send you a text alert if someone that you specified sent you an email.

In T-Mobile's new attempt to cut services to the bone, this is one service that T-Mobile felt it could eliminate.

T-Mobile Services / T-Mobile introduces dumbphone data caps on Nov 3.
« on: October 21, 2010, 10:40:19 am »
T-Mobile's greedy quest for money continues.

According to the blog:

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/10/t-mobile-data-plans-revamping-november-3rd/

the unlimited $10 dumbphone plan will no longer be offered starting November 3rd.  T-Mobile is replacing it with a 200 MB plan that charges overages of $10 per 100 MB ($30 per month cap.)

T-Mobile also gives any phone the option of using the 5GB plan ($30 per month on Even More, $25 per month on Even More Plus.)

This new plan does NOTHING to compete with AT&T's low cost data plan.  AT&T has a $15 per month 200 MB plan that can be used on ANY phone including smartphones.

T-Mobile's new plan can only be used on dumbphones and phones like the Nuron and Charm.  Any premium smartphones must use the $30/$25 plan.

Even Verizon has a new $15 plan that can be used with their smartphones.  Only T-Mobile restricts smartphones to the highest priced plans.

If you need a data plan on your dumbphone line, add it before November 3

All things Android / Oracle files suit over Android's use of Java
« on: August 13, 2010, 10:48:09 am »
http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/08/12/oracle-files-suit-over-androids-use-of-java/

"Google CEO Eric Schmidt is intimately familiar with the Java programming language as he led its development while he was at Sun in the 1980s and 90s. "

Looks like by stealing patents from Oracle, Eric Schmidt isn't following Google's "Don't Be Evil" motto....
