T-Mobile Services / Re: Data Cap for Preferred Android Data?
« on: May 24, 2011, 09:39:26 am »
Does anyone know if we can keep the Preferred Android Data if we switch to the new plans?  I was thinking of switching to the Unlimited Family Talk+Text and keeping my current Preferred Android Data, if it were possible.

Yeah, it's kind of like computers.  From one year to the next you might not see total leaps of technology, just some incrementally better stuff.  It's not till close to two years later that you will see something that is on a whole new level.  The G2 is not meant to get people enticed from just buying a Nexus One from 6 months ago.  It's to entice everyone that bought a G1 and their contract is about to end.  End of discussion.

Now, if you're the type that likes to get the next best thing, even if it's not substantially better, then there is no reason to complain either.  It's better than the phone you just got 6 months ago, but not so much better that it's going to blow the doors off of it.

So, is it like comparing Intel P4 CPUs to AMD's CPU? A lot of tech people will see the 800 and it will be deal breaker for them, cause most phones now come with 1GHz mobile CPUs, especially with the rumored 1.2 and 1.5GHz CPUs on their way.

So, which is better, Scorpion, or Snapdragon?

The battery life on my N1 is horrible. Especially with the constant email syncing.

That might be a better analogy.  Especially older AMD processors.  Alot of people saw that the "clock" speed was less then an intel and figured it was slower.  But in fact, they performed very comparably to the Intel chips.  That is when AMD used name their chips with something like 3400 so they could say it compared to a 3.4 GHz cpu from Intel.

Yeah, considering the Nexus One (and Incredible for that matter) was 540 off contract, I don't see how ANYONE thought it would be in the 400-450 range.  $500 is a nice price for this hardware off contract.

I wonder if this would have been the Nexus 2, if Google did not scrap the project.  They did initially say they were going to do a second "enterprise" phone...and many speculated it would have a keyboard.

Samsung Android / Re: Vibrant Touch Wiz
« on: August 07, 2010, 09:24:20 am »
I wish that Launcher Pro had the touchwiz style app drawer. I am using the 3d app drawer with LP now.

u like that horrible app drawer? i HATE swiping left and right.. thank God for LP

I like swiping left and right for the apps.  I think it works better than scrolling up down.  However, I don't like the boxes behind the apps in TW.  Which is why I like ADW.Launcher, I get the best of both worlds.

I feel the same way about touchwiz.  It's not bad per se.  I just like the customizations I can make in ADW.  Although, my biggest gripe about touchwiz is the home screen issue.  If I want less than 7 screens, I should be able to toggle which one can be the default screen.  I don't want screen 4 to be default when I only have 4 screens.

And about your sidenote.  I think a lot of people think that is because of the form factor (it really does look like non iPhone 4 iPhones), the way they did the static buttons on the bottom and the app drawer.  And since those are probably the 3 most common things people will notice about a phone, it does have close similarities to the iPhone.

But that is just about where it ends.

G2 / Re: Tmobile G1/G2 Blaze aka the Vision.
« on: July 29, 2010, 08:56:34 am »
I am thinking the vision/g1 blaze is project emerald/sidekick twist.  Back when the emerald rumors came up the other code names for it were the vision and sidekick twist.  Perhaps the keyboard swivels (aka twisting motion) out?

The MyTouchHD is then the vangaurd.

T-mobile Deals / Re: Percent off Bills
« on: July 23, 2010, 02:40:37 pm »
As far as AAA, you can get a discount if you are a AAA member.  You need to call and speak to a CSR who can add the discount.  However, you will need to agree to a 2 year contract.

I also have the preferred Android plan ($10 less than normal) for being a long term customer.

I did not realize you could get that discount on the EM+ plans (though, it's only a $5 discount $20 instead of $25).  I called to see if I could add it for my brother, as he was becoming the 3rd person on my family plan with data.  The Loyalty rep said he would discount all three data to $20.  That was a nice surprise!  If I had known that before, I would have done that months ago for the first two lines.

Samsung Android / Re: a few Vibrant questions...please help
« on: July 23, 2010, 01:27:27 pm »
The internal memory is indeed 16 GB.  It is in two partitions:
1.69GB for apps (more than enough)
13.18GBis for music/pictures/videos/downloads etc.

The reason for this is that when you mount your internal memory, you will still have access to your apps still.  If it were all on the same partition, your downloaded apps would work.

The 2GB external SD card has Avatar on it, which is why you are only seeing 441MB left.

All in all, plenty of space for everything you need.

Holy mother of pearl....That QSD8672 Chipset made me wet myself

imagine a 4" 1440x900 screen :).  I found with the Vibrant 4" is the perfect screen size.  Big enough to not need a keyboard.  Small enough to still fit comfortably in my pockets and hands.

Samsung Android / Re: ok i'm confused on one thing about the vibrant
« on: July 22, 2010, 06:51:44 am »
That being said.  I have consistently seen 4+ Mbps down, and up to 5.3 Mbps down, on my Vibrant.  Testing right next to my wifes myTouch 3G which was only getting 1.5 Mbps down consistently, and maxing out at 2.5 Mbps down.

So while the Vibrant has the same max 7.2 Mbps down like all other 3G phones so far, it definitely has a knack for using it's bandwith compared to other phones.

The only thing about using launcher pro/adw launcher is that you lose the samsung widgets.  I actually liked a few of them so it's making my decision tough.  Add to the fact that I don't think touchwiz is bad...and I'm in tough position to make a decision

Samsung Android / Re: Samsung Vibrant HSPA+ speeds...nice
« on: July 19, 2010, 10:35:48 am »
I know my G1 and my wife's mytouch (original version) top out at  3 Mbps down and .5 Mbps Up.  However I have constantly seen my Vibrant do 5.2 Mbps/ 1.5 Mbps.  Very nice indeed.  And I have done them side by side.

I'm located just outside of Providence, RI, which was announced to have HSPA+

Are you currently using an Android phone?  If so, contacts are automatically synced with your google account.  When you sign in on a new phone the contacts will all come down.

I stopped by my local store and played around with one for 5 minutes.  That display is absolutely gorgeous.  So silky smooth looking.  I am almost positive I am getting it now...like 99% sure.

So, supposedly the captivate is going to cost $350 off contract:

That would have been one sweet of a price for T-Mobile as well :)
