Are you talking about:

Settings > More Settings > Tethering & Mobile HotSpot > ON/OFF?

Looks like my space cadet math was wrong (double counted the retail price + EIP). So, in the end I will have saved some $350.

Well, in my head in made sense to switch:

Current plan:

$39.99 anytime minutes & free n/w
$ 9.99 1000 texts
$20 Loyalty MyTouch data plan
= $69.98 subtotal, before discounts

and switch to:
Unlimited Value Bundle
$74.99 (5gb data)

but will likely switch down to the $54.99 bundle (2gb data)...

I guess the only sour taste in my mouth is the retail price I had to pay in order to get on the Unlimited Value Bundle.

I guess I should have done this before making the purchase, but today after trying to figure out side by side costs post facto:

$348 subsidized price
$84 month (with "current" grandfathered plan and including $35 5gb data plan)
x20 months = $2047.60

$599 retail price
$54.99 + $20 EIP = $74.99 unlimited value bundle
x20 months = $2098.80

The only difference is $51. Ugh.

Anyone know if there is a free app for tethering that can get around the 5g requirement?

T-mobile Deals / Re: Loyalty Rewards mailer

No idea how one gets this offer. I have been with TMO for just under 10 years I think. I did a last upgrade 2 y ears ago with the 3G Slide, and have been out of renewal since April or May only.

Upcoming Phones / Upgraded to Galaxy S3 - did I get jipped?
« on: July 20, 2012, 11:12:58 am »
Yesterday I went to a TMO Store to upgrade my phone. I have been using the MyTouch 3G slide for the past two years and have been overdue for an upgrade.

I also received a "Loyalty mailer" yesterday where one of the options was to received up to $200 back (rebate/ visa card) if purchasing a new phone.

Anyway - so this is what the amounts were at the end of the day:

  • $255.49 in-store payment
  • -$200 mail in rebate
  • $20 for 20 months Equipment Installment Plan (EIP)
  • (Retail price of phone $599 - "not discount eligible")
  • Ditched grandfathered plan ($39.99 for 1000 anytime, free N/W, $10 for 1000 texts, $20 for Loyalty Android Data plan, w/ 10% Corporate Discount) for $74.99 Unlimited Value plan (unlimited calls, text, 5g data)

Basically paying $450 total on a new phone doesn't seem right for a long-term TMO customer (10 years), out-of-contract and renewing for 2 years.

Is this the standard deal for customers like me? Or did I get jipped by the dealer? or does this sound about right?

T-Mobile Services / 5g vs 2g Data Plan question
« on: July 20, 2012, 10:10:47 am »
I just upgraded my phone yesterday to the Galaxy S3. The TMO dealer told me that in order for me to use the WiFi HotSpot feature (which would only be in rare occasions where I would not have regular internet service), I would need to be on the 5g data plan. If I went with the 2g data plan, I'd get a message telling me I needed to upgrade to 5g. Is this true? I kind of felt this was the dealer's way of up-selling me to the higher plans.

Thanks in advance for any insight-

T-mobile Deals / Loyalty Rewards mailer
« on: July 19, 2012, 10:19:49 am »
I received a loyalty mailer yesterday that read: "Your choice of Rewards" linking to www.t-mobile.com/nostrings

Options of rewards are:
- Hi-speed data on up to five devices with a free 4g mobile hotspot plus a 2gb mobile broadband data plan for only 99cents a month for 6 months
- One month free service, in Jan 2013
- Up to $200 back on any phone
- Personal reward choices

Anyway, so I went to the link and signed up for the $200 rebate since I was planning on upgrading soon... but wasn't able to PRINT out the rebate or instructions before hand!

Does anyone know where I can get this?

Thanks!

Why is that? What happened?

T-Mobile Services / Phone installment plan?

When I upgraded two years ago, I had the option of doing an installment plan (paid $50 the day of purchase, and then spread the balance over my monthly bills for 4-or-so months). I am close to upgrading again - is such an installment plan still offered?

Upcoming Phones / Re: Upgrade help: Samsung Galaxy SII vs Blaze

Any major differences between the One S and X?

I really liked that HDMI-like feature (plays your screen on a tv via wireless) on the One X - is that also on the S?

Thanks, also looked up some vids on youtube - looks pretty cool. Any idea of date of release for TMO? That page just says Q2, not sure if I can wait another 3 months...

I'm a little reluctant to get an HTC phone, based on my interactions of the HTC Evo. What's the big selling point(s) of the HTC One?

Will the Blaze be priced more or less than the GSII?

Upcoming Phones / Upgrade help: Samsung Galaxy SII vs Blaze
« on: March 23, 2012, 12:20:35 pm »
Hey all,

I have been counting down the days to where I can finally upgrade my MyTouch Slide 3G... and today is the day!

I have been eyeing the Galaxy SII for a while, and my upgrade is priced at $229.99 with 2 year renewal directly through TMO. I also noticed the Blaze is "coming soon" and per the Phone Release thread it is being released on March 28. Not necessarily sure if this phone is better per se, based on the phone comparison sheet on tmobile. Does anyone know how much the Blaze would be w/ 2 year renewal?

Are there any [better] phones that are also coming out, that I should wait for?

My preferences are pretty simple: Android, must have swype, and must have the Wi-Fi portable hotspot feature (to use phone as a modem).

Any suggestions are most appreciated. Thanks!

Upcoming Phones / Re: The best a month from now?

I'm biting my lip going with an HTC phone. My boss has had nothing but problems with his Evo. Also, it is my understanding that Swype isn't installed on any HTC phones, right? I have been spoiled by this feature. The Samsung phones come with Swype preinstalled right? I guess I'll have to circle back and see what phones they will have toward the end of March. Thank you again.

Hi all,

I hate to hijack someone else's thread but I'm kind of in the same boat. I am currently using a (now dated) myTouch 3g Slide... and my upgrade date is coming up 3/23 finally.

I think I've been gravitating toward Galaxy S II. I do know I want an Android and need Swype as a feature. I saw the Galaxy Nexus post but to my understanding is only available on Verizon? Does anyone know if it's coming to TM anytime soon? If so, is it worth waiting for or should I go with my impatient gut for the Galaxy SII? Is there something (else) newer coming after 3/23 that I should wait for?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

T-Mobile Services / DATA PLAN question for Android (MyTouch Slide)
« on: June 23, 2010, 10:53:28 am »
I recently got the MyTouch Slide and have the ($20) preferred/loyalty Android data plan. I was wondering, at the end of my two year contract, can I switch to the $10 web2go (I think that is what it is called) plan? I think that is the same data plan that the no-contract Nexus One phones use?

Thanks in advance~

myTouch Slide / Re: First Android phone - battery life expectancy?
« on: June 16, 2010, 09:30:35 am »
Just the thread I was looking for... I've had the slide for two weeks now and wanted to see what the norm battery life is like for everyone else.

Typically I've been having to charge my phone once a day (at night). In the beginning it would die faster because I was exploring everything on the phone. But now, I am using it lightly - texts, facebook, chat sometimes here and there, minimal calls... and I get to the low battery warnings by the evening time... sounds typical?
