T-Mob,

Close to the same deal I got when switching to sprint last month.  Got 2 for 1 on the Pre's, Free LG Lotus for the wife and $50 Instinct S30 for the daughter.  Data and voice is stellar plus the anytime any mobile for everything data is killer.  There customer service hasn't been an issue at all but T-Mobile CSRs are funner to talk to, at least for me they were.  There's no doubt I made the right move.  I'm still here also as I do have a soft spot for T-Mobile and their fine customers.

T-mobile 3G / Re: Indy supposed to get 3g on the 9th

I sincerely hope Indy isn't ignored by T-Mobile and you finally get 3G on the 9th.  I also hope your coverage is more expansive than the launch here in the St Louis metro area where they basically left half the metro population on EDGE.

I already jumped ship, fellas. Quit out on T-Mo last week and got a Pre. And I couldn't be happier. Signal/data strength punches T-Mobile's in the pee-pee with no remorse. And the Pre itself is an amazing device. Not to mention Sprint is getting the Hero and the SamsungQ(which is a G1 on steroids). It sucks 'cause I held out and hoped high for our dear Magenta, but they just didn't deliver. I'm happy with my $60 Sprint/Pre bill instead of a $94 G1 bill.
Jumped to the Pre 3 weeks ago and have no regrets.  Love the phone and am saving quite a few bucks with the Everything Data family plan.  Data speed is fast and the Pre is a fun phone that can still handle all of my business and productivity needs.  Still miss the CSRs but haven't had an issue with Sprint so far.

Sam, what if your area gets 3G in September or the end of the month then what?
Doesn't matter, they are shutting off my lines with my last day on 24 Aug 09.  I appreciate your concern but it's time for my business to move on.  I still use my G1 and if I see 3G before 24 Aug I'll gladly admit that t-mobile was more concerned about my market than I thought they were and would reconsider but come 25 Aug I'll be on Verizon or Sprint.  I'll miss the T-Mobile CSRs as they are the best but won't miss the lack of signal and am looking forward to high speed data.

T-mobile 3G / Re: Columbia, MO 3g active
« on: August 14, 2009, 09:26:53 pm »
I just wanted to post that Columbia, MO also got 3g on Wednesday along with St. Louis, MO. I guess they're in the same market.
Interesting, and this is the reason why I'm leaving t-mobile.  I'm across the river, I can see the arch on a clear day yet have no 3G while Columbia is turned on yet is like 100 or more miles from St Louis.  ETF on 5 lines waived (thank you T-Mobile Retention Dept), eagerly awaiting my first experience with a 3G network, just won't be t-mobile.

They're working on it just be patient Sam you will get it trust me if my little town got it then your going to get it but what's location I'll get someone to look into if they can.
Land, location is Shiloh IL on the east side of Belleville IL, zip code 62221.

There is bleed over from STL about 8-10 miles into IL but very weak, a guy who works for me had a weak 3G signal on his wife's G1 this morning.  He's switching when his contract is up also, says the network just isn't strong enough for his needs.

Congrats reuther and STL, unfortunately T-Mobile doesn't think those of us across the river need 3G.   I will have to change my sig and work on getting my ETF waived.  Enjoy the connectivity!

Well, the unofficial confirmed dates are 11 to 21 Aug so we'll see what happens.  If they have anymore outside work to do now is the time as the next few days look warm but much less humid with no rain forecast.  Sure wish they'd hop the metro and find their way to Belleville but they may be worried about getting lost in East St Louis on the way over to turn on the metro east 3G.  Counting the days when I can get 3G on a carrier that recognizes this market (the other 3).

Using GV for outgoing only right now, Incoming caller id also shows person calling not GV number.  There is a workaround for incoming calls but I haven't checked it out in depth.  My wife uses way more voice minutes and she also has a GV number set up.

Still waiting in St Louis burbs.  Using the shadow and paying $10 for edge, $25 for EDGE even on the G1 is robbery on T-Mobiles part although I do miss the G1 and android.  Will wait impatiently for many months for 3G, at least I get a measure of satisfaction using my GV # as a MyFaves contact.

Jason on the blog side said that it's now beginning in STL on 11 Aug.  If you get to the store again reuther ask about that phase II timeline I was told about.  I just can't see them launching inside 270 when the majority live outside of the 270 loop and also in IL, makes no sense.  Of course, it could be that most of their customers are inside the 270 loop and the suburbanites are on AT&T or Verizon.

LOL, NO 3G FOR YOU!  That should be T-Mobiles new network motto. :)

Since Indy is spread out I assume that it could take up to a year to cover the Indy metro area, similar to what happened in many other cities and what will happen here in St Louis.

Yeah we'll go to Verizon, all my family back home is on Verizon plus a number of people we know here so minutes won't be an issue and while I'll miss the G1 (back on the shadow again to save $15 and get used to winmo) I will enjoy VZWs network and 3G coverage.

Enjoy your data speeds when you get hooked up, at least someone around this area should.

I spoke with a T-Mobile Rep this evening who quoted an e-mail he received yesterday on St Louis 3G.  He said 3G inside the 270 loop beginning 12 to 21 Aug 09.  This will be Phase I of the deployment and will only cover the St Louis Missouri area inside the 270 loop, nothing outside or across the river into Illinois.  Phase II is supposed to cover outside the loop and into Illinois and is expected Dec 09/Jan 10. Needless to say I'm disappointed as I live on the IL side but for those of you who are in the city and close suburbs this info confirms what Jason said in a couple of the recent 3G blogs.

If anyone wants to take over a MyFaves 800 Family Plan @69.99 plus 2 extra lines and 9.99 unlimited family texting that expires in around 9 months PM me, I can't wait around for T-Mobile to get their act together and decide if they can make it over here or not.

T-mobile 3G / T-Mobile's outlook concerning 3G
« on: July 22, 2009, 09:18:16 pm »
Article from CNET, Oct 06.  Note "gee whiz" characterization when discussing 3G from the President Robert Dotson.  Now I know why this company is so slow, their president isn't sharp at all when forecasting the market or the direction of the industry.

From CNET 6 Oct 06.  Source: http://news.cnet.com/T-Mobile-outlines-plans-for-3G-network/2100-1039_3-6123480.html

T-Mobile, the smallest of the major mobile-phone carriers in the U.S., is the last of the big carriers to deploy a 3G network. Cingular Wireless, Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless have each been offering 3G wireless service for more than a year. 3G allows carriers to offer more capacity on their networks to deliver new services such as video, music and other data services.

But T-Mobile executives say the company has not been hurt by the delay.

"We believe we have timed this well," Robert Dotson, president and CEO of T-Mobile USA, said during a conference call Friday to discuss the new network plans. "We have a track record of not putting our dollars in 'gee whiz' technology. We invest our dollars smartly and that has earned us financial returns in the market place."

No mention that their smart investments has also earned them the coveted #4 slot when discussing national carriers.  No wonder I'm disappointed, I thought this company had a clue but looks are deceiving.

When comparing VZ and AT&T against T-Mobile, T-Mobile has the cheaper rates for data but they also have a tiny 3G network.  Give tmo some time, in a few years when their 3G network is complete they'll be as expensive as AT&T and Verizon.  For family plans with data Sprint's Everything Data is the best for both 3G network coverage, speed and cost.
