i think OS X (the OS the iPhone/iPod touch use) is perfect the way it is, for an iPod. i recently got an iPod touch [as a gift] and i absolutely love it because i dont need to multi-task or anything since its an iPod. i had an iPhone a little over a year ago and remember throwing it around and being careless since i honestly hated it. i am very gentle with my iPod touch because, as an iPod, it does everything i need and much more (read: internet!). the current OS Apple has is pretty, yet plain. just because its popular, doesnt mean it powerful. like i said, the OS is flawless when using the iPod touch. when using an iPhone, one sees how much work needs to be done.
Android, though it has its flaws as well, can be considered a true smartphone operating system.
when it comes to hardware, though both phones are sexy, i would say the Apple beats HTC because the iPhone 3GS has a bigger screen and thinner profile; i hate how the myTouch 3G is almost 14mm thick, pathetic.
when it comes to software, the myTouch 3G owns the iPhone 3GS. Android IMO is the best mobile platform currently available.
johnnybananas, since you cant get 3G with either device, it really comes down to whats more important for you: software or hardware?
