Upcoming Phones / Upgraded to Galaxy S3 - did I get jipped?
« on: July 20, 2012, 11:12:58 am »
Yesterday I went to a TMO Store to upgrade my phone. I have been using the MyTouch 3G slide for the past two years and have been overdue for an upgrade.

I also received a "Loyalty mailer" yesterday where one of the options was to received up to $200 back (rebate/ visa card) if purchasing a new phone.

Anyway - so this is what the amounts were at the end of the day:

  • $255.49 in-store payment
  • -$200 mail in rebate
  • $20 for 20 months Equipment Installment Plan (EIP)
  • (Retail price of phone $599 - "not discount eligible")
  • Ditched grandfathered plan ($39.99 for 1000 anytime, free N/W, $10 for 1000 texts, $20 for Loyalty Android Data plan, w/ 10% Corporate Discount) for $74.99 Unlimited Value plan (unlimited calls, text, 5g data)

Basically paying $450 total on a new phone doesn't seem right for a long-term TMO customer (10 years), out-of-contract and renewing for 2 years.

Is this the standard deal for customers like me? Or did I get jipped by the dealer? or does this sound about right?

T-Mobile Services / 5g vs 2g Data Plan question
« on: July 20, 2012, 10:10:47 am »
I just upgraded my phone yesterday to the Galaxy S3. The TMO dealer told me that in order for me to use the WiFi HotSpot feature (which would only be in rare occasions where I would not have regular internet service), I would need to be on the 5g data plan. If I went with the 2g data plan, I'd get a message telling me I needed to upgrade to 5g. Is this true? I kind of felt this was the dealer's way of up-selling me to the higher plans.

Thanks in advance for any insight-

T-mobile Deals / Loyalty Rewards mailer
« on: July 19, 2012, 10:19:49 am »
I received a loyalty mailer yesterday that read: "Your choice of Rewards" linking to www.t-mobile.com/nostrings

Options of rewards are:
- Hi-speed data on up to five devices with a free 4g mobile hotspot plus a 2gb mobile broadband data plan for only 99cents a month for 6 months
- One month free service, in Jan 2013
- Up to $200 back on any phone
- Personal reward choices

Anyway, so I went to the link and signed up for the $200 rebate since I was planning on upgrading soon... but wasn't able to PRINT out the rebate or instructions before hand!

Does anyone know where I can get this?

Thanks!

T-Mobile Services / Phone installment plan?
« on: March 26, 2012, 01:12:34 pm »
When I upgraded two years ago, I had the option of doing an installment plan (paid $50 the day of purchase, and then spread the balance over my monthly bills for 4-or-so months). I am close to upgrading again - is such an installment plan still offered?

Upcoming Phones / Upgrade help: Samsung Galaxy SII vs Blaze
« on: March 23, 2012, 12:20:35 pm »
Hey all,

I have been counting down the days to where I can finally upgrade my MyTouch Slide 3G... and today is the day!

I have been eyeing the Galaxy SII for a while, and my upgrade is priced at $229.99 with 2 year renewal directly through TMO. I also noticed the Blaze is "coming soon" and per the Phone Release thread it is being released on March 28. Not necessarily sure if this phone is better per se, based on the phone comparison sheet on tmobile. Does anyone know how much the Blaze would be w/ 2 year renewal?

Are there any [better] phones that are also coming out, that I should wait for?

My preferences are pretty simple: Android, must have swype, and must have the Wi-Fi portable hotspot feature (to use phone as a modem).

Any suggestions are most appreciated. Thanks!

T-Mobile Services / DATA PLAN question for Android (MyTouch Slide)
« on: June 23, 2010, 10:53:28 am »
I recently got the MyTouch Slide and have the ($20) preferred/loyalty Android data plan. I was wondering, at the end of my two year contract, can I switch to the $10 web2go (I think that is what it is called) plan? I think that is the same data plan that the no-contract Nexus One phones use?

Thanks in advance~

I just got my bill (after switching to the MyTouch Slide and getting the Android data plan) and I was under the impression that the AIM/Yahoo/Gtalk services were included as part of DATA and NOT text. I got a bill for "overage" charges for using Yahoo Messenger. This was surprising to me because on my blackberry, all chat apps were part of data.

I called customer service and the rep I talked to said that Yahoo is part of texts and not data. Is she correct? Need clarification here please...

Thanks in advance!

Also - I was able to get on the preferred Android data package for $19 - not sure if that affected anything as well??

T-Mobile Services / Is insurance worth getting?
« on: June 02, 2010, 03:42:51 pm »
I know this is totally subjective, but what are your thoughts on insurance? Is it worth getting?

Today I finally upgraded my phone to the MyTouch 3g Slide... this has got to be the nicest phone I have ever owned, and most expensive I've ever paid for. I can't remember what she said about the 'warranty' -- how long that was covered for, 1 year? That would be if something internal isn't working properly. As for the insurance, I know it covers water damage/ lost or stolen etc. For $5.99 a month and $130 deductible, is it worth getting? The Tmo rep I talked to also said that she couldn't guarantee if it had to replaced, whether or not it would be brand new or a refurbished phone...

I'm pretty anal about my phones and have kept if not all of them in pretty good shape and have never had insurance in the past. Wondering if this is something I should invest in this time around because it's such a fancypants phone...

myTouch Slide / myTouch 3G Slide worth waiting for?
« on: May 29, 2010, 09:03:26 pm »
I have been wanting to get a new (touch screen 3g) phone for quite some time now but haven't been able to pull the trigger. I am still using an old-as-time Blackberry which I am growing tired of and irritated with as of late.

I've been wavering on all the fancy phones over the last six months: myTouch, Tmobile G1, Motorola Cliq in particular... which for some reason or another I never pulled the trigger on. Today I looked at the Motorola Cliq XT and was about to get it at Sams Club but they said I couldn't upgrade there since I'm on a grandfathered plan (shrug). Anyway, when I got home I saw that the MyTouch 3G slide is coming out soon... is that worth waiting for? My other option was the Nexus One (which is my top choice but I can't justify the $300-$500 price tag on it just yet)... Does anyone know what the Slide will be priced at?

Cliq XT / Cliq Xt at Sam's Club...
« on: May 29, 2010, 08:47:36 pm »
Hi all,

Today I was at my local Sam's Club and they had the Cliq XT available for a two year renewal at $36 plus the $18 upgrade fee. I had thought and thought about getting it while I shopped for my other necessities and when I pulled the trigger, their screen came back saying that since I was on a grandfathered plan, I was not allowed to upgrade my account (at that price) and that I would need to go directly to Tmobile...

Has anyone had a similar experience or have any insight? Can I upgrade at Sams Club or have to in fact upgrade directly through TMO to be able to keep my current/grandfathered plan?

Thanks in advance---

PS - A little disappointed in not being able to get the phone, I logged into my TMO account today and saw that to upgrade to the XT it would be $100. I then saw the MyTouch Slide that is coming out soon... is that worth waiting for?

Hi all,

I recently downloaded and installed AIM/ Yahoo Chat/ and Google Talk on my BB Curve (downloaded it directly from the BB site), but I have not used it much yet.

I was wondering if the messages I send and receive get depleted from my text message allotment, or is it free under my unlimited BB data package?

I've tried Googling and found similar questions, but have read mixed answers. Some say yes and some say no. If anyone can clarify here, I would appreciate it!

Thanks in advance~
