so I just saw a commercial on TV... It starts off kinda like the T Mobile flash mob commercial... but 1 guy takes off his coat and starts dancing all alone... everyone stares... after some time he stops and looks at his phone... his message finally downloads saying the flash mob time was moved.... to me this commercial mocks the t mobile commercial... has anyone else seen this? or know what i'm talking about?

Samsung Android / Awesome Drop... (Very Useful App!)

okay... this isn't strictly for the Vibrant but I noticed it now and it is extremely useful... the app is called Awesome Drop (it's free on the market)... it  allows you to transfer files between a PC and your phone... in the most SIMPLE way i've ever seen without using cables...

You open up the browser... to http://labs.dashwire.com (go there now it has a video of how the app works)...
then you open the app on your phone...
on your phone you put in the code that appears on the website... and it will link your phone and the site, changing the top of the website from a number to a "Drag Here" green box...
Simply drag the file/files (yes it does multiple files) from your PC to that green box and it will start copying to your phone...

This app is extremely helpful if you have a small file or a couple small files you want to copy over, like ringtones pictures even full songs... it does NOT work too well with extremely large files like movies and stuff but hey for those situations i'm sure people wouldn't mind using a cable...

Anyway i hope you guys find this app as helpful as i have!

so i have a listview in my app, and when i make the contextmenu come up is there a way to get the listitem that was clicked to bring up the contextmenu?

Aol media has released an official aim app for free in the market. The only cool thing about it is lifestream, apparently now you can link your twitter and facebook to aim and view them directly from this app as well, and even chat with facebook friends too.

Needs a lot of work but all in all I'm glad to see they finally released an app. At least now they're showing interest.

G1 Discussion / On RC29...

so i had to wipe my device and now i'm on rc29 again... i've waited couple days and still haven't gotten an update notification.

if i manually upgrade do i have to do it in the order of updates? or can i just upgrade to 1.6? how does this work? if i do receive the ota am i going to receive rc33 and then 1.5 and then 1.6? any info would be greatly appreciated

G1 Discussion / NEED HELP PLEASE... CyanogenMod 3.6.8.1 (Fixed)

I installed CyanogenMod 3.6.8.1 and it loads up but if i press the green call button it says "the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectadly." and i have to hit force close... i do NOT have any contacts or any dialer.... can anyone please help me out? what did i do wrong

I need some help with Visual Basic and I was wondering if any of you guys on here would be able to help me out... the issue I'm actually having is (using vb6) I'm trying to add "reference" to the project, microsoft.directx.audiovideo something or other... I've added directx sdk I've installed directx runtime and followed all instructions google has told me to do with no luck it still does NOT show it in the list of references of VB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

MyTouch 3G / MyTouch 3G

okay i woulda posted this in the "all things android" section btu i can't post anything there... new topics OR replies :shrug:

anyway... After getting to use it more and more i'm actually starting to like it. I've been carrying it around with my G1 as well and leaving my SIM in the G1 but the MyTouch for some reason just seems to be a lot faster... it installs apps real fast and it just seems to run a lot quicker overall... the ONLY beef i have with it as of right now is thatyou can't change the trackball speed and that the auto-orientation takes too long IMHO....

I like the lighted trackball (when phone rings and stuff) though brings me back to my sidekick days hehe..

if you guys have any quesitons about it let me know and i'll try to get back to you as soon as i can...

Edit: (Adding cool things i've noticed as i use it more)
1) Appears to have 2 LEDs instead of 1.. i have no idea why theres 2 because only 1 LED i've seen light up (the one on the right side)  I've tried seeing if charge light and notification light has 2 different sides now but that's NOT the case.



2) Apparently this has always been there but i just never noticed it and thought it was pretty cool, although i dont understand why it has been kept out from regular key entry... Whenyou go under contact info and click the number field this keypad comes up...


3) It now has a hook for a lanyard for you lanyard/trinket lovers  


4) This is what came in the packaging... Internal obviously will be the same for everyone but external (SD Card) idk if it will be the same but that's the one i received...


5) No Camera Button... the ONLY buttons that are on the phone are Call (Green), HangUp/Power (Red), search, back, menu, home, and volume buttons... No Camera button so you HAVE to go to the camera through the app icon and you have to press the icon to take the picture/video (or click the trackball in -thanks bjb_nyj101).

6) The About Screen...


7) Update Available but not working... Apparently theres an "update" ... 1.33.2005 but apparently MyTouch is currently 1.33.2006? so idk... i guess we have to wait and see... This update (from what i've heard) is suppose to "prepare" the MyTouch for exchange support

I've decided to give programming a try for the G1... not quite sure what i'm going to make as of yet but i use to program a lot in the past... when i use to code i've coded in QBasic, VBasic, C++ (VERYYYYYYYYYYYY little) and Java... This was all almost 10 years ago so it's stored somewhere deeeeep in my brain lol...

do any of you guys have a good link or something to what i need to get started, what i should code in so on and so forth?

Is eclipse what i should use or is there something else?

Any help/guidance you guys can give would be greatly appreciated...

Is there any way to get arabic language to show up on G1? in text messages and stuff?

i use JSandbox to enable japanese on the G1 but is there something similar for arabic?

Development Questions / Turn by Turn Nav using default maps?

The other day i had to go somewhere and I didn't have my gps with me, so i used Yellowbook app to find the address and then put the address in the default Maps app that comes on the phone, then i put "Directions" and it gave me directions to the place... I put it to satellite view and viewed the directions, took me a while to notice but while i was driving the "my location" dot moved with me ... it had dots for where the "next turn" was and everything...

i'm not that great with programmingor anything but wouldn't it be possible just to add some sort of speech and auto-updater for the maps app so that it will update which part of directions you're on and also to read to you when you should turn and such?

did that make any sense?

Android market discussion! / Apps not working in 1.5

okay... here's the situation... since you guys know a lot about why things work a certain way i figured i'd post here on what i noticed in hopes that maybe one of you would know a fix/solution for what's going on.

as many of you guys know not all apps work with 1.5.... but here's the thing, when you download and install an app from the market, if it installs as com.blablabla.blablabla then it won't work and won't load properly it'll just crash, if it installs with the correct name and icons then it works fine.

It's NOT the particular app that does this, because in one instance it wouldn't let me install jewellust, hello im, and many other apps, but then i redid everything (unroot to root) and then installed all those apps... but now the nba gametime app won't let me install it keeps installing as a com.trusted.nba something or other... anyway i don't want to keep rambling on about this but if anyone has a clue what i'm talking about please let me know if i can fix this, or if you need more info let me know.

Android market discussion! / Paid Apps Unable to Redownload... (Update)

k i have 2 paid apps and since i master reset i haven't been able to download them.. i searched on google and still can't find an answer....

i know you guys on here go to all these different sites and stuff so i'm hoping maybe someone knows a work aroudn to get this to work...

if you need any more info let me know

"Download Unsuccessful" is what happens

Edit: okay i didn't find a solution but apparently the reason the download fails is because it's NOT visible (at least to me) in the market... if you remember back to when paid apps were first added, not everyone saw all the apps... for some reason you gotta give it time (after resetting or changing phones) for you to be able to see all the apps... when the app is again visible in the marketplace then you can redownload it.

Hope they fix this :/

This program is amazing... i do NOT have a rooted phone and it's basically let me change the theme of my G1 Home Screen... theres a free version and a paid version, at first i downloaded the free version and was so impressed with how well of a job they did that i bought the paid version (which to me so far looks exactly the same) but i believe they deserve it since they did such a good job and didn't require me to root my phone.

Check it out guys ... and download the iphone theme as well... kinda cool to show friends with iphones
