Upcoming Phones / LG MyTouch vs Exhibit II 4G
« on: November 09, 2011, 10:44:39 am »
Anyone try out the new MyTouch by LG? Any thoughts on it? It looks like a repackaged Optimus Sol which got some good feedback in previews I've read. Both phones have the midrange specs I'm looking for and in my pricerange (I'm paying full price, so around $300). The Exhibit II has gotten great reviews and I've played with a bit. My only knock on it is I don't like the feel of it, but this is true of most Samsung phones and is something a case can easily fix. $200 out the door at Walmart is pretty sweet too. The MyTouch is going for $279 and I'd essentially be getting a better screen and camera for the extra money, though the Exhibit II's were both really good.

Unlocked phones / No data plan phone suggestions
« on: July 13, 2011, 03:07:34 pm »
My folks need a new phone as they've been using the same Moto RAZR for a while. Good news: they're due an upgrade. Bad news: the non-smartphone selection is pretty slim (Gravity 3 and T, Smiley, and D-Lite). Tried to convince them to get a data plan but they've told me they have no use for web access since my mom's not tech savvy and my dad doesn't like looking at small screens for extended periods of time due to eyesight issues (he didn't like webrowsing on my iPod Touch). I'm considering buying them an unlocked phone. It'll be calls only and the occasional text or picture msg but want something nice for them. Trying to keep it under or around $200 and considering the following:

1) An older Android smartphone. Newegg has the Behold II and Mytouch 3G 3.5 mm between $140-$200. Yes they're outdated and the Behold is stuck at 1.6 but again, zero use for web access. Interestingly the Mytouches are priced differently based on color.

2) A Nokia smartphone. Ovi maps is nice but don't like their touchscreens. Note: back in May T-Mobile had the E73 free w/ no data plan. My brother somehow scored that one before its EOL.

3) The original Behold, one of the last true feature phones from T-Mobile. Amazon has it less than $100.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
