Apple / Re: iPhone 4 Unlock/Jailbreak Coming Soon (Really Soon)
« on: July 17, 2010, 01:51:01 am »
actually it's not when you're willing to look at it in the long term. a iPhone 4 32GB costs $699 with no contract.
add up unlimited service over two years on AT&T:
114.99 x 24 = 2759.76 (+ cost of phone @ 299 subsidized) = $3058.76 and you're locked into that contract
add up unlimited service over two years on tmobile=
79.99 x 24 = 1919.76 (+ cost of phone @ 699 unlocked) = $2618.76 and you can leave anytime.

so you're saving more than $400 over the long term by using an unlocked iphone 4 on tmobile. yeah, you dont get 3g speeds, but some people dont mind if they are around lots of wifi spots.

Apple / Re: Enable MMS in the native app with your iPhone 2G!
« on: June 29, 2009, 10:59:22 pm »
swirly is ok but I wasnt too pleased about their upgrade policy for 2.0, and they clearly stated that they would not support 1.3 on the 3.0 software.
Also had LOTS of problems getting 2.1.1 to work on my iphone.

installed this hack, it also took a bunch of wrangling to get it to work right, but now i can send and receive. the image quality is poor however, it's obviously reducing the size. i imagine it's probably something with the user agent, so I'll have to find an XML file that works. Neither the default iPhone UA file or a UA file for an N95 worked to fix the image size problem.

Motorola Discussion / ZN5 Zine question
« on: June 01, 2009, 11:51:10 pm »
A friend of mine with a Zine asked me about the new data plan pricing... she wanted to know if she would be able to get in on this new unlimited data/text plan, or does the Zine classify as a "smartphone" and hence the higher data plan pricing?
I didnt want to give her a wrong answer. Any clarification would be appreciated.

No idea what your talking about only thing that springs to mind is android and its really not that hard to install 3rd party apps on the behold just time consuming wish Tmo would make 3rd party apps have access on all there phones

maybe this?
http://developer.t-mobile.com

If I do start up a FAQ sticky, it's just gonna be links to threads that are already available - so it'll be up to the community to ensure that all the misinformation has been taken care of.  ;)

no no, i meant more like a wiki, like what has popped up for the Motorola Q9, http://www.motoqwiki.com/
i figured as long as it's a community effort that would do a decent job of weeding out the mis-information and only sticking to the facts.

Yeah, it's been asked quite a few times.  I'm even more tempted to start up a FAQ style sticky and see how that goes.  Unless someone else wants to volunteer.  ;)

you guys should start a wiki section of the site where tips tricks and hacks for each phone can be collected.

and am i understanding this right, that there's really no 3rd party apps for this phone at all? I mean, ones that are specifically for this device, and dont involve any hackery for installation. What happened to that whole developer community thing tMob was going to do?

BlackBerry Discussion / Re: 12/1: 4.6.0.180 For Pearl Flip 8220 is out
« on: December 18, 2008, 12:02:07 am »

It's the same browser that's in the Bold. This is just a minor OS update to fix sluggishness issues, free up more memory and the like.

Thanks, thats more what i was getting at, if it was a little less sluggish.

T-mobile Deals / Re: Is the Behold going on sale?
« on: December 13, 2008, 06:40:36 am »
correct me if im wrong but isnt the "storm" for verizon technically the 9530? Wouldnt that stand to reckon that there are going to be other models, like a 9520 for tmo (with H@H service), a 9510 for AT&T with GPS, and provided they dont go under, a 9530 for Sprint? That follows pretty much how RIM has distributed things in the past

G1 Discussion / Re: I found the G1 User Manual!
« on: September 25, 2008, 09:33:15 pm »
this manual is hysterical!

"Water will damage your phone and accessories — even a small
amount such as water droplets from a soda in your car cup-holder,
melting snowflakes, tears of joy, squirt-gun crossfire or steam from
hot water in the kitchen or bathroom."

Sony Ericsson Discussion / Re: Sony Ericsson TM506 review on Cnet
« on: August 26, 2008, 10:30:54 pm »
seems like a decent review to me. he did give it a 7.3 overall. I think the highest Ive ever seen on the site is around an 8.2.

when is CTIA anyway?

it brings up a very good question though i think...
it would be nice if there was some kind of information available somewhere for how to optimize one's wireless connection to work well with H@H... For me, my home router is quite past what tMobile is offering as their preferred router... Im running wireless-n with gigabit wired network for a central media server, an htpc, a common iTunes library across wireless & wired machines. so for me to downgrade simply to get better call performance is silly. There should be some kind of published special combination of settings to put into mine (and others') router to optimize H@H performance. and simply adding the tmobile router to the setup as an access point is dumb, because it's going to cause interference with the existing wireless signal because of its proximity, regardless of wireless channel. I should do some research on this and see if i can come up with anything. but i dont have H@H service so I wouldnt be able to test anything...
