Phone face-off / Re: Basic phone with a good camera

Thanks for the advice.  Yeah, I had the Behold, which was the version right before the Memoir, and the resistive touchscreen was hell on earth.  I understand what you're saying about flips and sliders, but the 2 nokias I mentioned in my first post actually have really decent cameras (the 3710 fold has a 3.2 mp cam, while the 6700 slide has a 5 mp cam, both with flash)...however, they only operate on 2G on T-Mobile.  I know...I am looking for a phone that might not exist...but I thought I'd try here.

Phone face-off / Basic phone with a good camera
« on: April 08, 2011, 09:40:02 pm »
Hey folks.  Maybe y'all can help me.  Trying to get a new phone for my wife.  She wants a simple flip or slider phone with a good camera that has a flash.  She doesn't quite like touch screens, so the new Nokia Astound is out of the picture.  Besides, even if I were to convince her with the touch screen, that phone is rather sluggish (I tried it at a store).  So, given the current lineup of T-Mobile phones, nothing quite fits that description.  I looked at unlocked phones and the Nokia 6700 Slide and 3710 Fold fit the bill, but they will only function on the t-mobile 2g bands, and I think it's wrong premium dollar for that.  So do any of you know of either an upcoming phone on t-mobile or an unlocked phone that has the following features:
- Flip or slider basic phone (not a must but preferred).
- Good camera (3mp or more with a flash, auto-focus is preferred but not a must).
- T-mobile 3G.
- Does not require data contract (i.e. not a smartphone).
- If unlocked, under $200.
Appreciate your help.

Just bought a Behold for myself and a Gravity for my wife; very happy with both.  Was pleasantly surprised to have a case for the Behold right after it came out.  Anybody know where/when I can get a case for the Gravity?

Just played with this phone today; really nice phone.  I would have bought it if it wasn't for the very high in-store price.  200$ is too much to pay up front for this phone (you get 100$ back via mail in rebate).  Gonna wait for the Behold then make my deciscion.

Thanks for all the replies...seems like we're set for November 3rd then.  My current Nokia 6133 is crapping out so it's about time for me to get a new phone.  Heard some of you complain about Motorola, which isn't the first time I hear bad things about their phones.  Truth is, I have no use for a smart phone, but I would like a phone with a really good camera because I take a lot of pictures on the go.  That puts me between the Samsung Behold and this one.  The camera on this one seems better than the behold (Xenon flash, low light optmization, more on board memory).  Also I'm not a very big phone of touch only interfaces; I like physical buttons.  Finally, the dismal batter life on my current phone makes me want something that will last longer.  Anyhow...that's why the Motozine seems to fit the bill for me.  Anyone think of a better alternative, or knows something that would deter me away from this phone?

A T-Mobile store employee told me today that the Motozine will likely be released in December (not Nov 3rd as mentioned on this site).  Anyone know if this is true?
