Customer Service / Re: Offered G2 as replacement for MT4G...

If I may ask, I own a MT4G, how do I tell what screen type I have?

Download the app "terminal emulator" from the market. open it up and type DEMSG and press enter. a bunch of stuff will show up. scroll to the very top and at the bottom of that top part there should be a line that says panel type=1 or panel type=2 if you have 2, you have the good one. if you have 1 then it is the bad one.

just an fyi, my suggestion is if you can to get out of owning that mt4g ASAP unless you plan on rooting and flashing a custom ROM. it slows down and starts lagging horribly after a while. notification bar doesn't pull down when requested, random hang-ups and lag whenever you do ANYTHING. I did accept the G2 that tmobile offered me as replacement for the mt4g and it works great. battery life on the stock rom isn't that great (but then again neither is the one on the mt4g) but with the virtuous g-lite rom on it the battery life is top notch...

also, the screen looks GREAT on all models and not just a few like on MT4G.

if it turns out you have the bad screen I would definitely contact tmobile and see what they can do for you. most likely just keep replacing your phone like they did with me. maybe you will luck out and get a good one ^^

good luck and let me know if i can be of any further help.

EDIT: if it convinces you any more to try and go for the G2 like i did, I can say that the G2's performance is almost identical out of the box. And after I put virtuous g-lite on it and was able to overclock the processor to 1.2ghz (as opposed to the 800 that comes stock and the 1ghz that is in the mt4g...the processors are the same other than the clock speed) the performance (at least according to quadrant and neocore) blow the mt4g away. still nothing you can do about the slightly less ram in the G2 but it doesn't make much difference (especially on g-lite which uses significantly less RAM than stock)...

EDIT2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863679 there's an xda thread on it if you'd like more info

They are very close in performance but the MT4G does have a 1.4GHz chip underclocked to 1GHz. G2 has something like it. Now the RAM is less its 512 vs 768.

I'm aware of the physical spec differences, I just want to know if they actually impact the real-world performance of the phone. This mt4g is nothing but a headache. Slow performance, problems with screen, problems with wifi dropping/wifi calling in general, problems with reading the SD card.

Does the G2 have the same just generally buggy problems as the mt4g. I got it to have the latest and greatest (when it came out) but now I am just kicking myself because for all its power I can't really take advantage of it, nor do i feel like it's very powerful due to all the persistent, nagging bugs...

Customer Service / Offered G2 as replacement for MT4G...

So here's my dilemma. I have a MT4G that has a burnt out/dead pixel in the upper left hand corner. It is the "screen type 2" variety of screen aka: the good one. I call up tmobile for a replacement and they have now sent me 3 straight mt4gs with a screen type 1 (looks like garbage/would rather keep my screen type 2 with a burnt pixel). So then today I called again after receiving another screen type 1 mt4g and they said that I would just continue to get a screen type 1 kind of phone if I went through them.

they then offered to replace my phone with an hd7 (definitely don't want a windows phone) or a G2...

here's my problem: I can go through HTC and have them fix my phone but then I am without a phone for 2 weeks and have to pay to ship the phone, etc. I can keep the phone I have and put up with the pixel (it is annoying although it is really only visible when against a white or green color...it is DEAD though, and not simply stuck). or I can get it replaced with a G2...don't really care about the whole keyboard thing but I wouldn't mind not having stupid espresso sense (didn't think that i would mind it when i got the mt4g but now i hate it and it makes the phone lag) however...

what it the comparisons between the mt4g and the G2? which has a better screen? which is more responsive? i know the specs on the g2 are slightly lower in ram and processor clock speed but is the performance appreciably different in games/apps/browsing etc? I just don't know what to do...
