T-mobile 3G / Re: Seattle 3G Coverage
« on: December 30, 2008, 11:55:51 pm »
It's good, the 3g map on tmobile's site is very accurate.  I'm just hoping Bellingham gets added soon.  It's my only hope at 3g here on Whidbey.

G1 Discussion / Re: T-mobile sending out updated batteries?
« on: December 30, 2008, 01:21:17 am »
They are definitely going to be sending out batteries to all who purchased the G1, but they have not yet received the batteries from HTC.  Since they are awaiting delivery from HTC, they do not hae the bateries to give to us yet.  It is the same battery that can be purchased from www.seideoonline.com for 42.95

It will last 22% longer than the stock battery.

Sweet!  TmoJoe, since you are almost always spot on with your info +1 to you.  My only question would be that the battery on the Seidio site says 15% more capacity.  Although, any increase for free is great.  Thanks again for the info.

Well, regardless of what they say about us here is what their admins think about their members (in regards to AC posting the G2 rumor):

"So here’s the bottom line, if you’re not satisfied with our coverage, I’ve said it before in the community and I’ll repeat it here —- you’re welcome to visit other Android sites, Android Community isn’t the only Android news / community source on the web! One last thing, feel free to email us your member ID (androidcommunity @ gmail.com) and we’ll be more than happy to delete it from the system."

If the rumored G2 came out with Flash then it would not be out until summer '09.

Is you PC using USB 1.0 or 2.0?

Have you recently changed your SD card?  If so, is the door secured completely and/or did you unmount the SD card before the switch?

The notifications are there.  It's just that the screen isn't big enough to show them.  Some times you can catch the bar on the screen.

Like Dharkaror said though email notification works the best right now.

G1 Discussion / Re: Flash, not as soon as we think?
« on: December 26, 2008, 01:55:49 am »
Another thing I thought of is that Adobe has already demoed it on Android. They're in business to make money, and sitting on code doesn't do that. If it's ready to go, I think they'll want to make it available ASAP.

In one of the videos they also discuss removing the licensing requirement for several of their apps.

I'm pretty sure it will be out for the Iphone at the same time android gets it.

Spring is not the middle of the year.  Early summer is though.

G1 Discussion / Flash, not as soon as we think?
« on: December 25, 2008, 05:03:32 am »
Happy Holidays!  It's late and I have no airplanes to talk to so I went looking for a potential Flash release date.  Here is what I found (source: http://seekingalpha.com/article/111024-adobe-f4q08-qtr-end-11-28-08-earnings-call-transcript?page=-1):

16 Dec 08

Walter Pritchard - Cowen and Company

Just two questions, one on the mobile side -- there’s been kind of a lot of press, maybe six or nine months ago, about a lack of Flash on the iPhone when it launched and I noticed just kind of on the new category of these devices, kind of the richer mobile devices, you haven’t been able to come up with a solution or there hasn’t been a business arrangement negotiated between you and these parties. I’m just wondering, I know you are probably not willing to talk about it specifically but in general, could you just address that topic and where that overall technology and business prospects stand for that market?

Shantanu Narayen - CEO of Adobe Systems

Sure. So smartphones continues to be a category that we are focused on. We have clearly streamlined our strategic intent to make sure that we have both web browsing as well as Air support on these smartphones. We actually already deliver Flash for smartphones, such as those powered by either the series 60 from Nokia, running the [Symbian] operating system and/or running Windows Mobile, as well as in Japan we certainly have a lot of support. So I would say that already today we have a lot of smartphone category phones that are supported with Flash. That’s why we’ve shipped over 800 million and we say we expect to reach our $1 billion mark sooner than anticipated.

The other ones are ones that we are working on. At MAX recently, we also showed a prototype of Flash running on the Android operating system that’s powered by Google, and now we have also said that we are only going to focus on Flash 10 rather than Flash Lite, which is why it’s taking a little time. But we fully expect to see versions running for smartphones in the middle of next year.

I really hope someone else provide info on a sooner release date or are we really waiting until mid '09 for a Flash player on our G1s.

Also, if you did not know Adobe has started an Open Screen Project to get Flash on all devices here is that site with Shantanu Narayen discussing the project:  http://www.openscreenproject.org/about/

Android market discussion! / ANDNAV2 and realtime turn-by-turn directions
« on: December 19, 2008, 06:12:01 am »
Incoming realtime turn-by-turn directions (It's in public alpha but only if you live in United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland, France, Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, Italy and Austria), I hope it is available for the US soon.

It will have adds in it to pay for the app but it will be free.

Website: http://www.andnav.org/

Credit goes to http://androidcommunity.com/android-has-free-turn-by-turn-navigation-20081219/ I just wanted to post it here because not everyone looks at other forums.

G1 Discussion / Re: Updated Android Roadmap
« on: December 19, 2008, 01:15:54 am »
Ah, it is a third party app, but it will be just as much on Google as Adobe to get it to us.  Flash is not something that will be released into the market.  Since it will be embedded in the browser, it will need to be released by Google/T-Mobile in an OTA update.

Ok I'll give in.  3rd party probably wasn't my best choice of words.  My point was that it is not completely on Google.  We have to wait for Adobe as well (even though we have seen it in action).

Android market discussion! / Re: Android Identities
« on: December 18, 2008, 11:38:24 pm »
**Edited with the correct info**

I google searched it because I hate not knowing.

Here is what I found out:

Android-identity is a set of activities for managing multiple identities.  (this is straight from the code.google site.  Link: http://code.google.com/p/android-identity/

So basically it gives you the ability to change out your phone login I assume.  I only have one Gmail address so I can't verify that.

A cool thing I noticed is that raw audio data can be accessed directly.  This should mean that EQ's, pre-amps and bass boost will be possible to make.

Can not help but notice Flash was not on the list.  This would support other forums suggesting it is not coming out until also ready for Symbian, WM and Apple (Late 2009).

Time will tell.

Flash was not on the list because it is a third party app.  It is not developed by Google/OHA.  It's Adobe and Adobe only.  We cannot blame Google for it not being out.  Hell the Iphone doesn't have it either.

I'm sure it will be addressed later.  Google is aware of the issue, lots of people are discussing it in the groups section.

This one I should have listed above as well:

Input method framework, for soft keyboards and other on-screen input methods.  Includes new APIs for applications to interact with input methods, and the ability for third party developers to write their own input methods.
