i am also returning my invisible sheild i kept if on for 2 days and it sucks.  there are still some bubbles.  I've put invisible shields on some of my friends iphones and they turn out great but the invisible shield is not right for the g1.  i would probably just get a screen protector.

Sorry for asking a question in here (is it allowed? if not, feel free to delete my post)...

Is there an easy way to move a shortcut from one "screen" to another? Without deleting & re-creating it on the new screen, I mean? (by screen, I'm referring to the Left/Center/Right home desktop screens and I'd like to, for example, move a shortcut from the Center screen to the Left or Right screen).

yes, it is possible you have to drag that app to the edge of the screen, and just give it a sec, and it will flip to the next screen

Lets all post some tips and tricks for the G1.  I will try to update the first post as much as i can.  This will allow us to gather most important tips from multiple threads and put them in one thread to make it easier for everyone

I will start off with

How to put ringtones on the phone so they can appear in ringtone selection menus

Referring to the SD card there is a folder named "music" (obviously you'll have to create it if you are using a new SD card).

Page 106 in the manual...

If you want, create folders within “music” to organize your music further.
If you want to use certain music files as phone, notification, or alarm ringtones, then create the
following folders:
• ringtones - Music files copied to the “ringtones” folder will display in the phone (incoming
call) ringtone menu. (Read more about setting a song as a phone ringtone in “Create
ringtones from songs” on page110.)
• notifications - Music files copied to the “notifications” folder will display in the notifications
ringtone menu.
• alarms - Music files copied to the “alarms” folder will display in the Alarm ringtone menu.
Note: If you do not want a ringtone to appear in your music Library but you do want it to be
available as a ringtone, then create the “ringtones”, “notifications”, or “alarms” folder outside
your “music” folder.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

May have to reboot the phone so they can be seen and picked.

How to set ringtones without using method described above

After loading songs onto my SD card, I go to the music player and select the song I want for a person and touch/hold. An option of making this my phone ringtone pops up. Select that option. From now on, this song is added into my ringtones list. Then, it's just a matter of editing the contact and changing their ring to one of the ones that I 'added' as my default.

All I've done is repeat these steps for each of my contacts. I know, it's kind of weird but it works without adding a ringtone app.

I was playing around and I found out that you can enable vibration for texts and even email. Just go into messaging, hit the menu button and go to settings. Under notification settings you can check off vibrate. You can also do this with e-mail messages as well.

awesome man!!!!  I love my g1 but they need to update the OS to be more consistent.

what i do for my ringtones is i go to a ringtones site then i click preview, once it is done being previewed i just go into my internet explorer temporary files program and copy that ringtone from there to another location on the computer such as the desktop.

Doesn't look like it, I plugged the phone in through usb and no programs come up in the main folder.  Is there any other way to tell if they are saving to the memory card?

im not sure but you can check how much free memory space is available.  or maybe there is a setting in android market which will allow you to choose a default storage location.

I just downloaded myspace mobile and an app called imeem that is pretty much an internet radio program.  Looks pretty cool so far

is the marketplace allowing you to save to memory card now?

hmm, they probably disabled the ability to save the apps to memory card because they were just "testing" the market.  It all make sense now
