I understand that people are cancelling within the 14 day grace period = NO ETF from TMO.
By cancelling service within the grace period equipment must be returned or you will have to pay the full retail price (difference) as YOU terminated the original agreement within the grace period.
Why would anyone expect to break an agreement and then expect the other party to abide by it.
If you wait until after the grace period expires, ETF from TMO + ERF from Google = $350 which means you would have paid $530 to keep the phone.  These big companies have legal departments that put these agreements together to guarantee they don't lose money.

Right. The people here taking part in this are prepared to be charged $179 plus an additional $150 from Google (assuming they cancel within T-M's buyer remorse period). Is that what you're saying?

Well leaked prices showed $449.99, so $120 more... lol

Looks like it is actually $500  :o :o

I haven't called back yet, but I plan to this evening.  Although the rep I spoke with said he would do a scheduled "call back" on Friday.  He said I would have to pay $200 Tmobile early termination since I am not returning the equipment.  I sure hope he's just misinformed!

What'd they say when you called back last nite?

EDIT: Just received my phone then immediately called to cancel. The lady didn't give me any problems but initially said I'd be receiving a $200 free from T-M. I asked her about that and she backpedaled and said it would actually be Google who would charge me and it would be for the difference between how much I paid for the phone and the 'full price' of one. I assume she was just misinformed and that she just meant the $150 fee. I hope.

Thanks everyone!

It's only supposed to be around $430 out of contract? There's no way that can be right, can it?

EDIT: Well actually I guess it can.  Regardless, at the price the N1 is selling, even if Google does charge their ETF, one could easily sell it and buy a Vibrant with what they make.

Dude seriously... That's a sign... Wait for the galaxy tomorrow lmao

Haha if that was available for less than $330 I sure as hell would be!

I just went to order again and after selected the "Yes, I want a new individual plan with T-Mobile. Check for coverage in your area" option, it said "You already have an account with the carrier. Please provide your phone number and PIN."

Now I'm stumped. :\

EDIT: Ah, after returning that message it gave me an option to add a new line of service to my existing account (which is what gave me the error the first time), I selected it for the hell of it, and it's now saying that I'm eligible and can order the phone for $179.99.

EDIT 2: Now at the very last page after I confirm my order, it gives me "Oops. We encountered unexpected error processing your request. Please try again in a few minutes." at the very top of the browser. WTF.

EDIT 3: That was because my credit card had expired. lolz. OK, it seems the order went through! Thanks to everyone in this thread.

Please update us on whether that T-M dude was totally wrong about $200 or not.

And still, no one has been billed from Google for the ETF? Crazy.

Yea assuming its just the typical Google $150, that IS the point of this thread, right? haha

I thought $150 was the amount Google would charge, making the phone a total of ~$330.

Excellent. I feel pretty dumb for not putting that together last nite. :\

The claim a few posts up about having to pay $200 now has me a bit nervous though. Was that just a misinformed employee?

Have you tried calling back a second time, mtfh?

I just did the exact procedure you outlined as well and received the same error message. I only have one other fresh EM+ account I activated yesterday for this explicit purpose.

Which one of these options are we supposed to check:

"No, I want to modify my existing individual plan with T-Mobile."
or
"Yes, I want a new individual plan with T-Mobile. Check for coverage in your area"

?

Many thanks yet again.

Last nite I created my first account by ordering the EM+ $30 plan with a sim card online as per the instructions given to me earlier in this thread. However, it will not be at my house until Monday. :( Since they didn't give me a phone number yet, I assume that gets assigned once I first use my sim card... ? Regardless, is there a way I can activate my account right now so I don't have to wait until next week to get my second account created for the N1 order?

Thanks!

This 'trick' would never work at a best buy or amazon or any company that has experience in selling phones. If you want to do it, I would suggest that you stop pussy footing around and follow the step by step that was laid out for you. This opportunity will never present itself again. And the clock is ticking fast on this one running out.

lolz. I have every intention on doing it according to those exact steps! I was just wondering specifically about the future because I had a friend who wanted to do this as well but they are bound to a separate contract for quite a few more months.

You mean they'd open a brand new account within weeks of me canceling the first one? Or do you mean after the 90 or  120 day period?

No.  Let me clarify my suggested procedure:

1.  Order SIM card with a low cost Even More Plus plan.
2.  Once that account is active go on Google and add an additional individual line to your account.  Buy the N1 for $180.
3.  Put SIM card from step #1 into the N1 and start using it.
4.  Call T-Mobile and cancel account #2.
5.  Port your Sprint number over to account #1 whenever you're ready.

Is the Google webpage going to continue selling the N1 until TM gets off its ass and puts it in their stores?

Nobody knows for a fact that they will ever sell the device at T-Mobile.  Google just said they were going to sell them at retail stores.  They may only be able to get them into stores like Best Buy.

Ah. Thank you for the step-by-step. Even if Google quits selling them online like today, for instance, is this trick expected to work if its purchased from a place like Best Buy as well?

This forum is great, btw... so helpful. ;)

So I guess there's no way around that, aside from opening my 'main' account beforehand, like using a different credit card, etc.?

Well, a credit card is not important. If you credit qualify T-Mobile will just open the second account for you.

I now feel a sense of urgency since I assume this trick will no longer work once Google stops selling the phones online and leaves it all up to TM, correct?

There's really been no new news about T-Mobile selling the Nexus One.  T-Mobile has never been interested in that device and with the Vibrant coming out, they're busy promoting other things.  One can't know for sure, but I don't think there's a lot of urgency required.

That being said, the cheapest plan is $30 per month, 500 minutes talk.  Whenever you're ready, you could open that, get the SIM card, pop it into any cheap GSM phone.  Then order the phone from Google opening the second line.

When your contract is up, just port your number over to the first SIM card and drop it into the Nexus.

You mean they'd open a brand new account within weeks of me canceling the first one? Or do you mean after the 90 or  120 day period?

Is the Google webpage going to continue selling the N1 until TM gets off its ass and puts it in their stores?

Many thanks for all your help.

I have never been a T-M customer and ordering the N1 would create and cancel my first line with them, right? So do they have any policies that would restrict me from immediately creating a new Even More Plus account to actually use my N1 on? I think I remember reading about some US Wireless companies banning you from their service for a few months after a canceled account.

Well you're partly right.  You won't be able to create a new Even More Plus account.  But you won't be banned either.  If you try to get a new T-Mobile account, they will just reactivate your old account (along with the Even More plan.)  I think you have to be gone for like 90 days before you can get a brand new account.

I guess you could open the Even More Plus account first.  (Just go online, select Even More Plus, and buy the SIM card.)  Once that line is open.  Then follow the procedure discussed in this thread to add the second line to your account (which will eventualy be canceled after the phone arrives.)

If you went under contract ull need to pay ETFs right then & then you can create an even more plus account.

Viper, first of all, there is no ETF when you cancel during the trial period (which is the whole point of this thread).  Second (as discussed above), T-Mobile will just reactivate your old account if it is within 90 days, so no, he won't be able to create a new Even More Plus account.

Thanks much for the info. So I guess there's no way around that, aside from opening my 'main' account beforehand, like using a different credit card, etc.?

I was hoping I could just order the phone now and create the EM+ account around a month later because my current Sprint contract isn't over just yet. I now feel a sense of urgency since I assume this trick will no longer work once Google stops selling the phones online and leaves it all up to TM, correct?

Hmmm.

It would've been according to this thread, so the $179 phone under contract, then assuming Google charges us, another $150. So after those two fees, I would be free to create a completely new and separate account to use the N1 on an Even More Plus plan? Thanks again!

activated N1 this morning over wifi. plugged my sim in around 12pm and t-zones has been working perfectly since. will it keep working? who knows... ill keep you all posted

Thanks for the report -- just to clarify, when you say you have t-zones, are you referring to the $5.99 data plan that they call "T-MobileWeb" inside My T-Mobile?
