@phlyer..... yeah saying you want to cancel will get you to Loyalty. ... a lot of those reps are universal and can do what ever you need from them

However if you have a data device... when the system asks what you want to do say.  "BLACKBERRY" that will route you to the PDA depth. Not outsourced anywhere out of the US. ..

I'm also pretty sure the only dept that they outsource is flex-pay I could wrong.  If you don't have flexpay I'm curios if you are constantly getting reps with a strong accent.  You could aswell be getting a rep that lives in the US that happens to have a strong accent. We have such a diverse culture its hard to say....

Try to be patient. I know its hard when youbills wrong or phone is broken and if you need troubleshooting just use the Blackberry key word at the beginning of the call.  Even the PDA reps are to help when you call about a phone first handset

Nexus One / Re: 3G still dropping to Edge a lot....
« on: February 12, 2010, 04:47:43 am »
So I ran the same test as shown in the video in the blog... when holding the N1 in my left hand all good four bars and sign strength at -72dbm.... changed hands holding the same way in my right hand... with in 30 seconds dropped to one bar and -101 dbm. .. turning turned off 3G (settings>wireless controls >mobile networks >2G only) now on edge tested left then right hands... and the results were the same. Four bars down to one in 30 seconds and signal strength from -70 Deb down to -100 Dbm

Looks like its not just a 3G issue but weak radio perhaps..

wow so much to say so little cyber space.....
Hello All *smile* Summarizing has never been my strong suit, so please bear with me.

I finally decided to upgrade to the G1 (I know someone that has it and she was always "recommending" it) Well my little Samsung slider took a bath in grape juice so I decided it was time. First they sent me the bronze when I ordered the white. Then I had to pay to UPS it back to them. I was told I would get a credit to my account. Then I was told that I won't get a credit because "we can't pay for it just because you didn't like the color" wtf?? I finally had to give up on that call because she would not understand that of course I didn't like the color..it isn't what I ordered!

NO Offense I don't mean to sound like a ass but you should have fought harder, spoke to a supervisor cause that is ridiculous....and any time a rep makes an offer to you..Make them put it in the notes and read it back to you and get their rep ID

So I took a step back and said ok maybe I will just wait. Then the grape juice incident happened so I revisited the G1. This time they had the white one and assured me that is what I would get. There was a lot of back and forth over the previous shipping mess and other CS stuff that I'm still working out. Including being told back in June when I renewed and was eligible for an upgrade that no matter what phone I bought, what changes I made to my account, etc (was considering adding my daughter to my account) I could do a 1 yr contract but it would cost me $50 more for the phone(s). I was also told I would get "best possible pricing" (long story short, bad bad experience with 2 yr contract was not going to renew customer loyalty got involved) When I actually ordered it I was told that I couldn't do a 1 yr with the G1, when I pressed the issue and had her look up the notes by date/rep ID/etc I was told that I could do it but it would cost me $100 more! That the G1 is one of the exceptions. I needed a phone, I was promised I would never be put through the CS nightmare that I went through the last 2 yrs...grr long story short..I caved!  your too easy... JK
So, I get my phone the next day! So far so good right?? Not so much. Right off the bat the battery is an issue. I followed all the hints and tips and nothing made a difference. I spoke with a rep yesterday online and they are sending me out a battery, though she can't guarantee it will be a different/improved battery...because she "works in tech support and has no control over what the warehouse ships"...huh??? What is the purpose of sending out a new battery with the same issues..I REALLY hope she is wrong on this. The order said that it was a replacement for "known battery issue".
ONE, Tech can not control or suggest to the folks at the wear house as to what to send...TWO the battery you are getting is definitely the same crappy battery... and THREE the order says KNOWN BATTERY ISSUE... which simply means HTC and T-mobile is aware of the fact the the G1 will eat your battery like a fat kid with a box of girl scout cookies
KNOW BATTERY ISSUE does not mean defect .....and if anyone else is really that worried www.cellphoneshop.net has G1 batteries for 12.99+tx

I asked about a few things that are bugging me that I thought must be something I just hadn't figured out yet. First, I followed the instructions in the booklet provided as far as putting my music on my G1 and when it comes to the "use for usb storage" option..it isn't there.    The "use for usb storage" option is there ....if the date is October 2008 when the G1 was first made and the booklet was first printed the G1 did have you select this option in the "SD card and phone storage" menu setting,  However around the second OTA update this changed.. the users manual however did not.. sorry 'bout that it was after that update that this ~~~>."Also to put music on the device you must plug the device into the usb port wait a few secs. then pull down the status bar on the g1 then press the usb connection and then select mount then you can put music videos files and what not on the G1....~~Tmobile Craver~~     That was a long drawn out conversation where she kept asking me the same things over and over again and never really got anything resolved. I asked about how I can keep my screen from locking out in the middle of calls ie: to "press 1 for English" I have to press menu key to open my dial pad, then to "press 3 for customer service" I have to press menu key to open....yeah well you get the point. In one call I had to press my menu key 6 times..just to press all the other numbers.    There has to be a better way. She says no...there is nothing you can do.."I'm sorry, I understand but there is no way around this"  This is like the only thing you were told by these reps that hasn't annoyed the **** out of me... She 'WAS right' this week there is an OTA update rolling out that is going to let you control the 'in call' screen time out among other wonderful things... what else you ask...GOOGLE IT!..hahaha   . Again...huh? The dial pad gone in seconds, but even the other screens lock up too soon. I've changed my screen time out settings and the screen goes out when it pleases..way before the ten minutes. I also asked about how to make sure apps are closed. She said the only way to close apps is to power the phone down and back up again, App called close everything. closes all apps running however the background apps on the G1 don't kill performance like in other HTC devices  otherwise they will keep running in the background and this is why I get so many "force close" notices. this girl sounds like a real piece of work... and stupid to boot...80% of force close errors stem from low memory... if you have to many texts you will force close when deleting them and in severe case like when you have 1000's you will force close when opening the messaging app itself  Again..what?? At this point I have about 3 more days in my 14 day buyer remorse (though when I bought the phone I was told since I'm in CA I have 30, but yesterday was told "no, only 14") you totally have 30 days in California its the only state that give 30 days
My screen seems to recognize touch very inconsistently, it locks out at whim (I've installed autolock so at least I don't have the whole pattern nightmare on top of the menu key any longer) plus the other things I've mentioned.

Here's my dilemma..I WANT to love this phone. I do. However unless I can use it for something basic..such as making phone calls..the reason I have cell phone..it isn't really doing me much good :^\ I'm looking to you the experienced G1 users..is the rep wrong? If not are there going to be fixes for these things? Should I just UPS it back and wait for something better else? Thank you in advance for your replies *smile* you really do have a great phone it is pretty basic and ordinary by design but with the right app supporting it your phone can be extraordinary don't give up the new OTA is going to be great and Im sure will give you new reasons to LOVE this phone

NEXT>>>>>>>>>>>
It saddens me that google pulled the tethering apps from the app store.  The rest of the Tmobile world can have it except for us, since tmobile USA has a crappy 3g network.  We pay more money than other tmobile customers, and we get a lower level of service compared to other tmobile customers.  This is the worst country on eart for cell phones, since companies want your money, giving you as little as they can in return.  your G1 can still tether with out those apps.. jump out to the powers that be out in cyberspace... you will need to flash your G1 to a previous RC build.. as it was you would have need root access on your G1 to use those apps so don't be sad that a bunch of cheese head developers wanted to charge you for what you can do with a little know how and research

AND THEN>>>>
I'm thinking about getting me a G1 but I have a question about it first.  When you receive a text message with a text tone that last 30 seconds does it have to play the whole thing out like on the other HTC phones  NO its worse... the whole ring tone will lace twice even three times before it shuts off... and if you are foolish enough to run a full MP3 as your ring tone... well I hope you really like the song... JUST KIDDING.. I remember that on My dash... HTC seams to have learned from their past and corrected that on this phone...although it is not WinMobile we will have to see what the "wing II brings us in the was of musical merriment

AND FINALLY >>>>
well there are ota updates that have come out ever since the g1 came out in october/november (pretty sure its october but cant remember!). those are supposed 2 fix a couple of bugs with the phone. but i mean, u'll probably never ever have a perfect phone.
i myself dont have that many force closures. but then again i dont mess around with mine all day.
.. Well My Phone IS perfect in every way... I call it the CT1

with out a data plan you can access data features So i would assume you can...My G1 is suspended but I can access all applications through the market on WiFi......

as for using the mentioned apps while off the wifi the answer would be NO,,, the mentioned apps require a running data connection so while off that wifi network you will only get error ...except for the games they will probably work

WOW .. all this to know what people look like .... Isn't the imagination more fun

The problem is caused by ppl powering the device on, and when they press the red END key they are also holding down the MENU and pushing in the track ball at the same time.

This then enables a  lock on the phone the only way around this is to pull the battery and turn the phone back on with/out pressing an holding the menu and trackball.

I read that on another forum but when trying it out there was no way to power the device on..pulled battery and tried to power on with just power button...the phones were unresponsive to anything... even master resetting it

9
So I have come across this twice at work... customers will have a blue LED but the G1 will not turn on, will not master reset by holding home and power while the device is off....

anyone know what causes this or how to correct it...i have read articles about it but can not recreate it on my own or on test phones at work.....

try this...master rest your G1.... then go to Menu > Settings > Applications > Market and notice how large the the file still is... I rest my G1 and noticed this file was at 30 mb...i reset again and it got smaller ...again and it was gone..but also was the "My  Downloads" info in the market ....So the phone holds info on your apps so you can reinstall after a reset however this file grows and grows as you download and uninstall you apps... if you really need these apps..write them down master reset twice then go and reinstall them from the market.... let me know if this helps at all

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. I guess it works well enough. Do you think that someone would be able to help me if I took it to the T-Mobile store?

Also, a second question: my text inbox and outbox only show phone numbers and not the names in my address book. How do I fix this?

do you have the sidekick data plan... if not you will only show the number of the incoming text.... this is because the side kick store the contacts in the network and does not really read from the sim like other phones will.... also don't go to a store for help ... call 611 for any tech issue

Another option if you will be staying some place with wi-fi is to take "two" phones with one phone being UMA compatible.  Set phone one to connect in UMA only (if it switches to a tower you will most likely be charged!).  Put a foreign sim into phone #2.  This gives you free US calls whenever your in wi-fi and a local carrier for traveling around.  Plus 2 phones in case one breaks is always a good idea.

Just Be Careful ....Although You are very correct this is some thing that may get corrected ..I don't know how or when but some people can one day get whacked with international roaming charges from this.......then again it Is called UMA ....  "Unlicensed Mobile Access" so it may never get corrected if you do get smacked with it call up with guns blazing..hehe

Yeah after playing a bit I realized what has changed.... still not greatly impressed... the G1 has so much potential... its just not utilizing it all....frustration overload

16
This is a total trouble ticket....try your sim in another tmo phone... just for ****s and giggles... I doubt it give you trouble in the other phone.... I know of this issue and unless it is back an no more exa.ples needed then you will need a trouble ticket....a ticket would light the fire under at&t's ass if it is thiers to fix ... I don't recomend escalating... the rep can see what the sup can if if is an known issue with no examples....then there is nothing to do but wait.......Sorry

the G1 like most phones will seeks out the strongest available signal to use if it is an open net you can jump on ..if secured you will need to know the shared key ............ I love my Wi-Fi don't live in 3G coverage  but thanks to T-mobile @ home service I just happened to have myself a wireless network at home that I can browse @ close to 4mb beautiful bloody beautiful

i think you mhght have the old version of chomp because then new versions notifications has been a lot better then before.

I don't actually use CHOMP I just saw two examples of this type of issue at work.. and the one the girl had just downloaded  it and told me she did otherwise I may not have put the connection to the call.... plus with these apps they don't always give the same experience to all...ever read a comment and see nothing but  force close errors and bitching .... then when you get it it is nothing but fluffy bunny slippers, tea party's  and a wonderful experience .... so  just cause a few had the problem does not mean all will...

but as far as updates for the apps I use ... 'aTrackdog' this one searches the G1 for your app list and then searches the market to see if an update is available you can then install from the same menu.... I love it some of the apps I use can update every week

20
I say you go down to the store ...put a brick through the window and demand to get your sim and your Mtv  and don't take no for an answer and when the cops show....you never heard of me...........
